Serena, Andreescu, Halep Headline Loaded US Open Women’s Field
It’s still four weeks away and a lot can change, but right now the women’s players are entered for the US Open.
Among the Top 25 in the world, only World No. 1 Ash Barty will be missing from the first Grand Slam since Australia.
The field will feature last four US Open champions: Bianca Andreescu, Naomi Osaka, Sloane Stephens and Angelique Kerber. And of course six-time winner Serena Williams who resumes her quest for a 24th Slam.
With Barty out, the top seed right now is Simona Halep. But the Romanian has expressed reservations about making the trip.
Karolina Pliskova will be No. 2, Australian Open champion Sofia Kenin No. 4 and Elina Svitolina currently fifth.
The officials draws for the US Open will be made Thursday, August 27.
The tournament follows Cincinnati which will be also played at the US Open site. However, several players including Halep, Svitolina, Kerber and Andreescu will play just the Open.
