Canadians Shapovalov, Auger-Aliassime Lead Depleted ATP Sofia Field
The ATP’s regular season wraps up this week in Sofia, Bulgaria where a field of 28 will fight for the last tour-level draw title of 2020.
After a slew of withdrawals, Denis Shapovalov will be the star attraction and the top seed.
The Canadian will be joined by countryman Felix Auger-Aliassime as the Top 2 seeds, marking a first in the ATP Tour era (since 1990).
Alex De Minaur is No. 3, Jan-Lennard Struff at No. 4 followed by Adrian Mannarino, John Millman, Nikolaz Basilashvili and Marin Cilic.
Shapovalov will open against Radu Albot who won today. He is project to meet Mannarino in the quarters and De Minaur in the semifinals. With a good performance, he could finish in the Top 10.
Auger-Aliassime could get Cilic in his quarter then potentially Struff in the semifinals.
Jannik Sinner and Gilles Simon are also in the draw.
The tournament was scheduled for the end of September but had to be moved to this later date.
Milos Raonic, Kei Nishikori, Kevin Anderson, Pablo Carreno Busta, Diego Schwartzman and Borna Coric were among the many withdrawals from the event.
Daniil Medvedev beat Marton Fucsovics in the 2019 final.
