American stars Serena Williams and Sloane Stephens meet in one of the better Indian Wells matches scheduled for Tuesday. Sloane beat Serena two years ago in the 2013 Australian Open quarterfinals, stunning the legend in three sets.

Since the loss, the two have had a rocky relationship. Sloane ripped Serena for he lack of comraderie after Australia. Serena responded she was a fan.

Serena went on to win later that year at the US Open, and now comes Act 4 in this rivalry. But even though they haven’t played in 18 months, their relationship remains icy.

“She’s the No. 1 player in the world and she’s a competitor, and that’s it,” Sloane said of Serena.

And Sloane added that one twitter, she gets hate messages from Serena fans all the time.

“Oh, they hate me,” Sloane said. “They are the first people to get blocked on my Twitter. I am the queen of blocking. Okay? You say one bad thing, block.

“There is no room for negativity. I understand that they are die‑hard fans and I appreciate that. I’m sure she does, too. But some of the comments and some of the things are know so unnecessary. It comes to the point where you’re on Twitter saying mean things about someone else. Like what do you actually doing with your life? Like is this your day job or how does that work?

“I’m not going to let people who say bad things or negative things about me scare me away from doing what I like to do. At the end of the day, people are saying something bad about me and negative, and they are not people I care about, they’re not in my life, they’re not people I love, so it doesn’t really matter to me.”

Serena didn’t address the twitter remarks, but she did talk about playing Sloane.

“I have had some tough matches with Sloane,” Serena said. “She’s had an interesting year, but I have noticed that she’s been really playing well. She moves well and she tries to do her best for everything. That would be an interesting, good matchup for me.”

Well, I’ve got news for you, Sloane: It’s not just Serena’s fans…

No, I jest. But only because ‘hate’ is such a strong word.

Barara Ball Says:

Sloane: I would be blocked because I cannot stand you and not because I am a Serena. I am not. Can’t stand your attitude on court. You believe your press coverage. Take a hint at Taylor Townsend and Ms. Keys. I watched you act so rude to your coach a couple of years ago while he was on court with you and I began to dislike you and since then you have done nothing to change my mind. You are a lucky young woman . Get over yourself.

Dan the Man Says:

I have been watching tennis for 35 years now, and Serena will go down as the having the most low class comments about her opponents for a #1 player in the women’s game (I could go on, but against Lindsay Davenport, and Sam Stosur for starters… Sloane is just one of many). To Serena’s credit, she has cleaned up that trash talk in the last 2 years which is good. It is true, also, that some fans have been inappropriately rude to Serena too. In this age of Social Media the bar is so low people can get away with comments and threats that should be charged criminally. It is an unfortunate result of expanded media options.

Not sure where else to post this, but the Hasse-Rosol match over on court 3 is turning into quite the dramatic slug fest!! Haase saved a bunch of match points at the end of that second set, and then played an outstanding tiebreaker to force a third set!!
