  • Began playing tennis at age seven
  • Has practiced with Goran Ivanisevic since age 10 and has similiar mannerisms and resemblance of his countryman
  • After defeating Federer on Centre Court at Wimbledon in 2002, earned nickname “Super Mario” by British media
  • Father, Stipe, owns a supermarket chain; mother, Nilda, is a financial advisor
  • Older brother, Ivica, who reached a career high ATP Ranking of No. 378 in 1997
  • Has a younger sister, Sanja, who was a Top 10 junior in world in 2005 and reached a career-high No. 159 on WTA Tour Rankings on Sept. 11, 2006
  • Hobbies include reading, soccer, basketball, movies, music, and all ball sports
  • One of top juniors in world, reaching final at Wimbledon at age 16 in 2000, losing to Nicolas Mahut in three sets
  • Also a finalist at Australian Open and semifinalist at US Open juniors (losing to Roddick both times)
  • Finished No. 4 in world junior rankings
  • Member of Croatian Davis Cup team since 1999 and has a 15-13 record (9-11 in singles) in 15 ties
  • Coached by Swede Fredrik Rosengren (since August 2005).
