Morrison, Querrey Win, Delic Loses at ATP IndianapolisPosted on July 18, 2006 The 2006 US Open Series kicked off at the RCA Championships in Indianapolis Monday, with American Jeff Morrison defeating Mexico's Santiago Gonzalez 6-2, 6-2. Morrison, whose past six tournaments have been at the Challenger level, claimed his second ATP-level match win of the year (d Pavel in R1 at Indian Wells). Morrison did not face a break point in the 59 minute match and broken Gonzalez twice in both sets.
Fellow American Sam Querrey enjoyed a tough 6-4, 6-7(4), 6-4 win over Serb Janko Tipsarevic. The 18-year-old won Challenger titles in Yuba City, California, and Winnetka, Illinois, in June and July and last week reached the second round on grass at Newport. Chilean Paul Capdeville made short work of German Thomas Behrend, winning 6-2, 6-0 in 43 minutes. Capdeville lost just one point on his first serve and won 51 points to 20. Thai Danai Udomchoke snapped a streak of four first-round losses at ATP and Challenger level with a confident 6-2, 6-2 win over Czech Tomas Cakl. Udomchoke, who has won two Challenger titles in 2006 and reached the final of a third, saved all three break points he faced and broke Cakl four times. Colombian Alejandro Falla improved to 6-2 at ATP level this season with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Frenchman Jean-Christophe Faurel. Falla has reached two Challenger finals this year and in his last outing reached the quarterfinals of the Cordoba Challenger. -- ATP |
