Karlovic Wins 3rd 2007 Title on 3rd Surface at ATP Stockholm Posted on October 14, 2007
Prior to 2007, 6-foot-10 Croatian Ivo Karlovic was an odd side-note on the ATP tour, an ace-dropping giant capable of an upset but never a title threat. Oh how that has changed this year.
On Sunday Karlovic collected his third title of the year on a third different surface, delivering 27 aces in a 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 win over Swede Thomas Johansson in the Stockholm Open final.
The indoor hardcourt title was his third of the year after Houston (clay) and Nottingham (grass).
Karlovic has a tour-leading 1,135 aces this year.
Karlovic joins Roger Federer as the only players to win singles titles on three different surfaces this year.
The Croat entered the event at a career-high No. 25 on the ATP Tour Rankings.
