Following a loss by world No. 1 Roger Federer to Fernando Gonzalez, world No. 2 Rafael Nadal dropped a round robin match Tuesday, losing a set lead in a 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 loss to Spanish countryman David Ferrer.

"He's playing with unbelievable confidence, moving unbelievably and playing crazy shots," Nadal said of his friend Ferrer. "No excuses -- I played well, he played better."

Ferrer sealed the victory with a backhand passing shot with Nadal at the net.

"At the end I was very nervous and cramping up with the nerves," Ferrer said. "Rafa is unbelievable, he fights the whole match but I'm playing with a lot of confidence. I played perfect in the third set -- if I don't play perfect, I can't beat Rafa."

Earlier in the day Serb world No. 3 Novak Djokovic was eliminated for semifinal contention after a loss to Frenchman Richard Gasquet.

"Considering the results I had this year, people expected me to do well here in Shanghai. I was one of the favorites for the title," Djokovic said. "Obviously I probably burned out a little bit and had too much pressure on me."
