Andy Roddick and
Mardy Fish did their Davis Cup teammates the Bryan brothers one better of Friday at
Indian Wells, advancing to the final while the Bryans were tripped up.
Roddick and Fish defeated the French-Swiss team of
Richard Gasquet and Stan Wawrinka 6-4, 7-6(4). Bob and Mike Bryan, the top seeds, were tripped up by the unseeded pairing of Max "The Beast" Mirnyi and Andy Ram.
Roddick and Fish play doubles together infrequently and have won one doubles titles at
Houston in 2002.
"This tournament, for those top guys, is a no-brainer to play some doubles to get outside on the hardcourts, when most of the guys haven't played apart from
Dubai, haven't played outdoors on hardcourts," Fish said of the top players competing in the doubles at Indian Wells. "So I think there's only a few guys that aren't. You know, James [Blake] is one, and [Novak] Djokovic, I think, is the other in maybe the Top 20. So a lot of guys tend to play doubles here."
