If it’s April it must mean Rafael Nadal is winning clay titles again. And this year he’s back to his routine. Rafa returns to the Rolex Monte Carlo Masters final seeking a ninth straight crown and in the final he’ll face rival Novak Djokovic.

“It’s great for me to be in the final,” said Nadal. “It’s fantastic news, playing five tournaments in a row after injury, being in five finals in a row is great. I’m very happy for everything. We’ll see tomorrow. It will be very tough.

“[Djokovic] brings you to the limit of your game if you want to have chances to win. I know I have to play better than what I did today and yesterday to try to win tomorrow. I have to play more aggressive. These kind of matches are special all the time. I am very happy to have the chance to play these kind of matches another time.”

Nadal, who staved off Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 63, 76, earlier today, is 19-14 against Novak having won the last three meetings, all of which were on clay.

The numbers for Nadal don’t end there. He’s won 16 straight matches and 46 straight in Monte Carlo. Since returning Rafa’s reached the final of all five tournaments he’s entered!

After a treacherous finish to his match today, here’s what Rafa said (his facial reactions are funny, aren’t they?):

Nole and Rafa are getting very close to breaking the biggest all time rivalry in terms of number of meetings: J-Mac and Lendl have the top at 36 times.

You mean time limit, no? Tic Tock….

Anna Says:

Lol. Rafa seems to be handling the time limit as good as anybody. Commies have said as much. Let’s see how Nole holds up tomorrow. In the past Rafa hasn’t been any worse off than Novak. Djokovich almost gave poor Martina a heart attack a few years ago. She was actually counting down his serve at one point.

kriket Says:
