Following a shock straight set loss today in the third round to Karolina Pliskova, former World No. 1 Ana Ivanovic talked about Serena Williams’s chase for 18 career Grand Slams.

“I think it’s amazing achievement,” Ivanovic said. “I think she has even potential to break the record. She has a big game. It just shows how consistent she is and how good she is. I think in women’s tennis we are lucky to have someone like her, someone people can look up to and be inspired by it.”

She was then asked to compare Serena with Roger who is also gunning for an 18th Grand Slam title this week.

“Serena has such a powerful game,” she said. “On the other hand, Roger, he, as well. He also plays very elegant. You know, it’s very enjoyable to watch him.”

That beautiful woman knows great Tennis when she sees it. May I add she is enjoyable to watch also.

SX1 Says:

Yaa ..Don’t know about her game but she is enjoyable to watch :)

TGIT Says:

Watched her in Cincy and she is a knockout. Not so much her game….

Hippy Chic Says:

I think shes more naturally beautiful than Sharapova, although our Colin would say both are overated in the looks department, anyway she was great in 2008,and when she plays well with constiency shes great to watch with natural talent, but her career has been full of ups and downs, which is a shame given she has so much potential….

Polo Says:

I think both Ana and Maria are beautiful. I would add “very” in Ana’s case. Ana also stands and moves around in a more regal manner. She stands up straight while Maria tends to slouch with hunched shoulders. I would not say they are overrated in the looks department but I am surprised that Maria’s endorsement deals are so over and above all the other female players considering how much she is not liked by many. Or is that only in tennis-x?
