Top seed Stan Wawrinka had to withdraw from Metz earlier today due to a right ankle sprain. The French Open champion was scheduled to face Philipp Kohlschreiber in the quarterfinals, but the ankle he injured in a 46, 63, 76(4) win yesterday over Dustin Brown wouldn’t allow him to play.

French favorites Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Gilles Simon are also in quarterfinal action today.

FedExpress Says:

why did he play in first place? appearance fee?

jalep Says:

Don’t know why, FedExpress. But Metz is nice 250 tournament and it did look like Stan could go there and win pick up the points and a title. Hope he’ll be in good shape for Asian Swing.

The best tennis this past week has been in Tokyo. Got to see most of my favorite WTA players. Watching the replay now of Kerber v Wozniaki and the 3rd set is great like it was at USO. Woz got her revenge.

A few good matches going on this weekend.
Tokyo semis:
Wozniaki v Bencic and Radwanska v Cibulkova
China final:
Jankovic v 22 yr old Czech Denise Allertova
Seoul semis:
Rising star 21 year olds, Aliaksandra Sasnovich (Blr) v my favortie, Anna Schmiedlova (Slo)
and,
Rising star, Alison Van Uytvanck v veteran Irina Begu (Rou)

Got my abbreviation wrong: Schmiedlova is from Slovakia (SvK), not Slovenia.

Also like the semifinals match-ups in St. Petersburg, not that I have hope of seeing them…

Thiem v Sousa (Por)
Raonic v Bautista-Agut

My how time flies…
Qualifying rounds starting in Kuala Lumpur.

Love watching Karolina Pliskova – Cech Republic has a dearth of talent indeed. Another great quarterfinal in Tokyo: Pliskova v Radwanska. Agnieszka was in wizard mode. Something might be wrong with her right calf though.

Slovakia (SvK), not Slovenia.

To most people in this forum, it is a distinction without a difference.
