Several players in the ATP Finals hunt strengthen their cases this week. In Kuala Lumpur, David Ferrer advanced to the semifinals beating Mikhail Kulkushkin 6-3, 6-4 today.

Ferrer will meet Benjamin Becker in the semifinals after the former Baylor Univ standout upset Grigor Dimitrov 6-4, 7-6.

“He’s had a very good week, winning against two of the top players — Chardy and Dimitrov,” said Ferrer of the German. “It’s going to be tough for sure. I will have to play consistent.”

In the other semi, Nick Kyrgios continues to serve well defeating Ivo Karlovic in two breakers. The Aussie will meet Feliciano Lopez tomorrow.

“It feels really good to be in the semifinals,” said Kyrgios. “I knew today was going to be tough. I thought he served really well, but I thought I also served really well and looked after my serve. It was a fun match as well; it was really good. I thought I stayed composed and today was a really good performance.”

Kyrgios is in his second final of the season after losing to Richard Gasquet in Estoril.

“Against Nick it’s going to be tough,” said Lopez. “He is an aggressive player. I have to be aware of that and try to be aggressive on the court and put some pressure on him. Hopefully I will have my chances. It’s an exciting match to play against one of the young guns on the tour.”

In Kuala Lumpur, tournament favorites Tomas Berdych and Marin Cilic moved within a match of the final.

Berdych cruised past Jiri Vesely 6-3, 6-2 to set a semifinal with Spanish veteran Tommy Robredo.

After beating Hyeon Chung, Cilic faces Guillermo Garcia-Lopez.
