According to reports from Brisbane, defending champion Roger Federer might be dealing with an injury ahead of his 2016 opener tonight in Brisbane.

Federer, who is due to face Tobias Kamke in the second round, has reportedly consulted a doctor, barely practiced and when he did he his practice short, according to the Courier Mail.

With no comment from the tournament, ATP or any notion of what, if any, injury the Swiss has, Roger is expected play his first match at about 9pm local time (3am ET) in Brisbane tonight.

Humble Rafa Says:

He consulted the doctor to stop going to old age.

Angel Says:

Stupid Humble Rafa stop insulting Roger. He is the best ever and you can’t handle that. Go have a life!!!

RZ Says:

Could be injury, could be illness. Guess we’ll find out.

Jack Lewis Says:

This new front page divided for some reason for 4 tennis players with the same story posted multiple times sure is a lot more awesome than what we had before…

Daniel Says:

Beggining of the year always had some drama for top players. It’s not the first time Roger had some issue pre AO. Hope it’s nothing serious as he can gain most welcome points after last year 2nd round loss to Seppi, specially woth his non clay schedule and Olympics long term. he shoyld make Quarters at least in AO. Of course, his draw will have a huge impact in his chances.

Sarah Says:

Perhaps he want to spend more time with the Koala and needs some time off….

Gypsy Gal Says:

I dont understand Jack Lewis post?….

Gypsy Gal Says:

Sarah the Koalas name is Tinkerbell, its a cute name and a cute picture….

Sarah Says:

the Koala is realy lovely

RZ Says:

@GG – if you go to Tennis-X.com, toward the bottom in the middle section there are links to articles specifically about Novak, Roger, Rafa, and Serena, but some are repeated (because the articles are about more than one of those players)

madmax Says:

Tom Gainey! What a scare mongerer you have become!

I read the courier Mail and this is what has been reported, vastly different to your one sided attempt!

http://www.couriermail.com.au/sport/tennis/brisbane-international-roger-federers-campaign-under-cloud-after-injury-rumours/news-story/0daf9210aea91fc527b0707a65e40f34

“It could not be confirmed if the 17-time Grand Slam winner has an injury or an illness”.

I love all the intrigue though Tom. It adds to the ‘will he/won’t he play’, so cheers for that!

Wog Boy Says:

Injured or not he is going to collect his 1+ million dollars appearance fee, cuddled koala (it is illegal to hold and cuddle koala in NSW but not in Queensland and Western Australia) and family had a nice holiday in sunshine state, though it wasn’t much of the sun, more of the rains and floods.

Wog Boy Says:

^^ missed to add that it is illegal to hold and cuddle koala in Victoria (Melbourne) too, and rightfully so.

RZ Says:

Wog Boy – Merry Christmas to you!

Humble Rafa Says:

it is illegal to hold and cuddle koala in NSW but not in Queensland and Western Australia)

This almost sounds like Chennai, one of the great places Humble has visited. You can’t cuddle people like you do in other parts of India.

Jack Lewis Says:

@Gypsy Gal
This relatively new layout of the front page, with one top story and then the rest divided in sections according to player, is just crap.
Maybe it’s only temporary, but the old way of having the stories just pile up with the new ones on top regardless of whether they were about 3 or 4 specific tennis players was just way superior.
You could tell right away what was new and what you had already seen, and the same articles weren’t posted more than once wasting more time when you glance over them.

Wog Boy Says:

@RZ,

Thanks very much.

Sarah Says:

Wog Boy, as you are celebrating Christmas may I ask, if You are a Serbe? Very cool :)

Merry Christmas!

Wog Boy Says:

Yes Sarah, or to be more precise I consider myself member of Serbian ethos.
I love Christmas, it is all about family, we celebrate it differently, our Christmas tree is different, it is oak that is blessed in the church on Christmas Eve together with hay and we take branch of oak and some hay home. We don’t give presents on Christmas Day but on St Nicholas day, St Nicholas who was giving the presents to poor people, though that is changing now. Christmas tree as it is known to the western chuches doesn’t exist as such in our churches, that tree is mostly to mark New Year arrival and so on and so on…

This is how I remember Christmas in the village with my grandparents in central Serbia, unfortunately as the villages are dying in Serbia so the customs are too, but anyway, have a look if you are interested and listen to the nice Christmas song, you don’t have to understand it just to feel it in your heart:

Sarah Says:

Thank you very much :)
I was once in Beograd in September 2010…and it was lovely, very nice people, great city, I loved it. I am planning to travel there again on 04. March if Nole will be there for Davis Cup.:)

Sarah Says:

P.S. I do not understand Serbian but I love it to hear Bajaga and Bijelo Dugmes songs ;)

Wog Boy Says:

I don’t know if you have dark Latin eyes or blue German one, but since you like Bajaga I’ll shout you this song “Blue Safire”, free of charge, pity you were not in Belgrade (Beograd) last Aug/Sep I could be your personal guide..and no AndyMira, I am not flirting, just being nice and polite..and being myself:

Enjoy Bajaga, from 30 years ago…”Plavi Safir”

Sarah Says:

thank you Wog boy, I have this song already and I love it. I like also Od kada tebe volim, Verujem ne verujem,Ruski voz, Frankuska revolucie, Pod jasenom, 442 da Beograda :)..I have a bit of culture in serbian music,…sorry if I wrote something wrong :(…Magazin as band is also funny :)

Wog boy, it was lovely to share those inforamtion with you, enjoy your Christmas day :)

Wog Boy Says:

It was my pleasure to share it with you and you definitely got mi with “Ruski voz” and “442 do Beograda”. Thanks

Sarah Says:

My pleasure ;) x

Gypsy Gal Says:

Happy Christmas Wogboy as your celebrating it now,i know the song was for Sarah, and i know im not a Novak fan, but i had a look and listen as i do with all musical links, very pleasant and gypsy like and in keeping with my monikor….

Wog Boy Says:

Thanks GG, and come on, songs belong to evrebody, there is always language barrier and sometimes cultural, but music unites and doesn’t divides regardless of language , I am glad you liked it:)

Sarah Says:

I hope you 2: WB and GG have access to the link I have sent. It is a very funny song, and it is funny to dance on it when you are drunk :) I did this in Beograd and felt amasing :))

Gypsy Gal Says:

Wogboy forums have a nasty habit of forming cliques and pushing people out, especially if you dont follow this or that player at the time, and everyone else around you is celebrating, and your own favorite is doing so crap,it can be a lonely place sometimes….

RZ Says:

No injury for Fed. It was the flu that his whole family had apparently. Didn’t slow him down apparently. I wish my immune system was as good as his.

Gypsy Gal Says:

RZ and mine ive had Bronchitis since December 7th which was my birthday….

RZ Says:

Yikes, get better soon GG!

danica Says:

Wog Boy,
Hristos se rodi!!!
Merry Christmas!

This is my favorite song for the past 4 years, around this time of the year. It is not a traditional Christmas song but nevertheless, I think it is beautiful with some heavenly voices. Also, it supports a good cause, the restoration of the 12th century monastery (the endowment of Stefan Nemanja, Serbia’s Grand Prince and inspiration for Nole’s and my son’s name :) ).

danica Says:

Gypsy and RZ,

I wish you a soon and complete recovery!

Gypsy Gal Says:

Danica and RZ Thankyou both ;)….

Gypsy Gal Says:

Danica nice song even if it wasnt for me….

danica Says:

Gypsy Gal ;),

The song is shared for everyone and was not dedicated to anyone in particular. I think that WB was also sharing in the spirit of Christmas. So, whoever likes it and enjoys it, my heart is full. And if it made you feel at least a tiny bit better, I am happy.

Wog Boy Says:

Danica,

Vaistinu se rodi

Okiegal Says:

Get well GG…..Sorry you have been ailing so long and Happy Belated Birthday too.

I think Rafa will have his hands full with Marchenko. That guy is playing some very good tennis. I hope Rafa plays better than he did today. Some of his returns were way off……but his forehand is looking much better.

Sarah Says:

a wonderful song, Danica
Merry Christmas!

Sarah Says:

GG, get well soon

Gypsy Gal Says:

Okie hi and thanks, but you did wish me happy birthday at the time anyway though lol,the thing i get irritated with is the repeated cliche of he wont beat Novak,he wont beat Novak, after every match he plays, well he aint even playing Novak hes playing Marchenko,id like to just watch and enjoy that for now….

Gypsy Gal Says:

Thankyou Sarah ;)….

RZ Says:

Thanks Danica! I’m actually quite healthy at the moment, but if I had the flu I would be in bed for a few days, not winning a tennis match easily. That’s why I want his immune system. I’m still amazed when I think that Fed reached the Aussie Open semis while he had mono.

Also, do you celebrate Christmas today? If so, Merry Christmas!

danica Says:

Sarah,
Thank you! ;)

Okie,
I read elsewhere that Marchenko got hurt in his first match. He is still in the tournament but must be thinking in the back of his mind about that, presumably, back problem.

GG,
Rafa is coming back. Tennis fans and journalists alike already see him as a 2016 RG winner. The fact that he struggled a bit today is not worrisome. Novak did too and it seems like he was quite lucky to win the 2nd set. Although Berdych didn’t lose to Nole for the last few years, he did gave him a scare in the MC finals last year, so Nole going through to finals is not a sure thing. I would rather wait and see how the matches enfold than predicting the final outcome.

RZ,
Yes, I am amazed how healthy most of the players are considering how they often change planes, time zones, have disrupted sleep… Roger seems to have a natural good immune system because that mono was the end of a career path for many a player (Ancic, Soderling…). I was just reading how Safarova will miss the AO because her bacterial infection flared up again. Apparently, she picked it up after the FO, she got hospitalized in September, her joints hurt and she is undergoing treatments again. It all sounds like Lyme to me :(. A terrible disease. I hope she caught it still quite on time and the appropriate protocol would help her (if indeed it is Lyme).

danica Says:

CF1,
If you are reading this thread, just a few extra words on whether Nole celebrates X-mas today ;). Yesterday, he wrote on the camera: “Happy Christmas Eve”. Today he wrote what could be translated as “Peace on Earth” which is part of our traditional X-mas saying.

Wog Boy Says:

Are you guys serious about Marchenko, I mean the guy is #80+ with no title against his name, few good matches or bad days of his oponents doesn’t make him real danger for Rafa, anything but win in two would be an embarrassment for Rafa, on the other side Nole is playing top10 player.

lakie Says:

Hi GG, I had flu too and am still suffering. A belated happy birthday to you. Don’t worry about Rafa. He will answer his critics on the tennis court and gladden your heart by the time RG comes along! He seems happy with his progress.
Okie, Kuz played really great in patches.
I think Rafa will beat Marchenko in straight sets tomorrow.

Okiegal Says:

@lakie…..I hope your are right. Marchenko looked good the two days I watched him.

@Danica…..Marchenko did mention a back ailment during his on court interview. I guess we will see tomorrow if it affects his play against Rafa.
He played soooo good I’m thinking “Who is this guy and where has he been”? I had never heard of him before. Don’t know if he’s playing way over his head or what…..

Okiegal Says:

@GG…..I am glad you remembered I wished you Happy Birthday back in December…..short term memory sucks! Yes, we Rafa fans take one match at a time……..he has to get past Marchenko first!

danica Says:

Marchenko is a talented guy, great player who was forever fighting injuries. The fact that he is #80 or so really means little or nothing. What if he is on his way to top 20 this year? He has to start from somewhere. Or, what if this is his “fluke” tournament like Janowicz had at Bercy a few years ago? I mean, a lot can happen. Even to the best. Rafa had his share of unlikely upsets on much bigger stages. Marchenko beating him is not out of question. However, having said all that, I believe Rafa will win.

Okiegal Says:

@danica…..Injury plagued, well that’s too bad for him. He is talented. You are so right, him beating Rafa isn’t out of the question. Kuz did cause him trouble….happy he got the win!

Wog Boy Says:

Marchenko is 28 years old, I wouldn’t say he is on his way to top20, rather on his way out of top100;) Seriously, Janovicz was 21 or 22 when he made that Masters final beating top players one after another, lot of people believed that it’s his breakthrough, I wasn’t one of them and if my memory is right skeezer agreed with me then, not that he agrees often with me, and we were right.
Of course Rafa tends to lose every now and then against some #100+ player and it is embarasing same as it will be embarasing if he loses against Marchenko, but he won’t lose it, two easy sets and that’s it.
BTW, nice win by Tomic against Nishikori, not that I cheered Tomic. It is so awkward to play against Tomic, he improved his serve, it is very hard to read his serve, he doesn’t give you any rhythm nor gives you the same shots. Nishikori was really frustrated and tentative, reminded me on Nole against Stan at FO.

Gypsy Gal Says:

Danica thanks,i just find it a bit irritating sometimes,it doesnt seem to matter who hes playing though in any tournament, every Tom,Dick and Harry seems to take great delight in bringing up that he wont beat Novak, when hes not even playing Novak, cant his fans just enjoy the here and the now for goodness sake?….

danica Says:

GG,

People seem to like to make predictions. I don’t. I know there is no sure thing in the Universe. So many things can happen. Injury at the practice session being one for example. Also, I am never at ease when Nole has to play top guys. I am aware that few things can more often than not change the outcome of the match. So please, do not care what others say or think. Enjoy the good match. ;)
