Novak Djokovic is just one final away from matching Ivan Lendl for consecutive tournament finals reached at 18. Djokovic, who is seeking a fifth Dubai title this seek, has made the finals at his last 17 tournaments since losing to Ivo Karlovic in the Doha quarterfinals at the start of 2015.

Djokovic opens his quest to tie Lendl today in Dubai against Tommy Robredo.

Most Consecutive Finals (Men’s/Open Era)
Ivan Lendl 18 (1981/1982)
Novak Djokovic 17
Roger Federer 17

“I try to approach each tournament optimistically and I believe I can win every match that I can play, on any surface,” Djokovic said. “The results I’ve had and the tournaments I’ve won over the past couple of years give me enough reason to be optimistic.”

Djokovic is also two wins from the 700 career mark. And since he lost in the final last year, he can actually increase his record ranking lead by winning the title.
