Novak Djokovic joined an elite group of players to reach the 700 career win plateau on the ATP Tour. The Serb won No. 700 beating Malek Jaziri 6-1, 6-2 today in the Dubai second round.

“Every milestone is special and it gives you an extra incentive and motivation to play well,” Djokovic told ATPWorldTour.com. “Being a part of the history books is a huge honour and is something that is always present, even though you try not to focus all your attention on the record-breaking opportunities. You use it for motivation and to push yourself to give your best.”

Van Persie Says:

Glutenfree cake for Nole :) Well deserved, sweethart ;)

Van Persie Says:

Correction: sweetheart :)

Green Lady Says:

Congrats Novak on 700 career wins ;).

J-Kath Says:

VP at least you didn’t say sweettart….sorri everyone, just couldn’t resist.

RZ Says:

Nole will probably pass Sampras in total match wins this year.

Van Persie Says:

J-Kath, good one :)
As I wrote sweethart, my subconscious spoke…Nole must be sweet but hart, just couldnā€™t resist ;)

Dave Says:

I was suprised that Nole got to 700 wins at a younger age than Federer. Federer has been able to do most things earlier in his career.

Daniel Says:

Agree RZ, 750 is minimum safe for this year and next year he goes above 800. Than targeting Agassi and top 5.
Too anyone having a shot at Connors they have to play at least until 36. Fed could only do it if he plays until 2018 minimum when he will be 37. Djoko has the game to play long but if he keeps making 70+ wins season he sure will end with at least 1000.

Is this stat correct? Rafa only .2% behind joker?

J-Kath Says:

@ Van Persie

Taa…good one yourself.

Complaint: when Princess Kate is in Scotland her title is Countess of Strathearn….after all she met William in Scotland….and she’s aiding and abetting Judy Murray in encouraging young Scottish players….no fairness in this world. Sigh! Sigh!

Note Nole had a dinner date this evening….surprised he didn’t change from tennis shorts to evening suit by the end of set 1.

So who will meet him in the finals: Stan? or Kyrios?

chrisford1 Says:

1. Connors and Lendl are somehow not given the credit for the tennis animals they were. Things like # of match wins shows what careers those 2 had. Still, if you look at Connors wins, he was a grinder that was happy to show up at the minor events and play tennis club pros and the pros let in who were at the Challenger level..Different times.

2. Novak’s 700 wins is even more noteworthy considering he had a year and a half less training due to the war hardships than his contemporaries. You do not see many junior trophies in his resume as well…the money wasn’t there to go to several of the junior events to “hone his skills” against competition.

3. Like Federer, Djokovic has a lower “tournaments entered” level than most players, but that is because both have had consistent excellence. They almost always go deep. And that means that some years Novak and Fed still lead the field in matches played. If not, still alsways in the top 5 of total matches played. And obviously, if you go deep, you face tougher and tougher battles with tougher and tougher higher ranked on ave foes.. Rafa for most of his career was the same.

4. It has to be tough for fans of other players to be saturated with Djokovic this, Djokovic that, significant or at least funny stuff involving him! But the 3rd Wheel has been at it so long and doing so well that records are falling right and left as he just does his thing. And he moves past other all-time greats in this or that.

Okiegal Says:

I made a statement a long time ago that I felt like Roger will keep playing to break the Connors record……Willie Makeit??? LOL

Markus Says:

Djokovic is the king of tennis right now so it’s understandable that he saturates all tennis talk/news. Nobody should resent it because the attention is well deserved.

Van Persie Says:

J-Kath,

Nole should have worn a kilt ;)

Regarding finals: let’s see. Atleast one of us will be surprised.:)

Wish you a lovely evening

J-Kath Says:

VP

Nole would look good in one…I’m sure he has a traditional right to wear one (Serbians have a version of the Scottish kilt)….if I remember correctly it was mostly Scots who emigrated to Serbia…imagine Wog Boy will get his whip out if I’m wrong…..Reminds me – the Brits. tried to get Nole to take out British citizenship…do you recall that?

J-Kath Says:

VP

Wish you a lovely evening too …it’s my bedtime 23.11pm!!! They are busy talking about the EU Referendum on TV….this is going to go on for 4 months!!!!!!

Daniel Says:

Yes Giles. That stat is whole career. Nadal was way higher before last year 20 losses and this year already 8-4. The tendency nownis fr Djoko to increase the lead and Fedal decrease, burteventually when Djoko declines his number will drop as well.

But i think the three f thek stays above 80.

chrisford1 Says:

Giles: “Is this stat correct? Rafa only .2% behind joker?”

Yes. If you look at this stat list, you see Nole and Borg are tied as the best now. 3 active players in the 80s in W-L. Nole, Rafa, and Fed. Only 4 other players in the Open Era were also in the 80 and above percentile. Andy is 77%, Delpo 71%. Every other active player is in the 60s or below.

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Cb_kC78UkAERWGz.jpg

J-Kath – Yes. Back in 2006. And the negotiations got serious. Imagine if he had. How many Davis Cups, majors Britain would have gained from the Anglicized Djoker on Team Murray!!!

Markus Says:

I like that stat that Giles shared. It shows Murray in the top 4. He really is the 4th guy in that Big 4 group.

Wog Boy Says:

I would take Bjorn Borg stats (all stats) with a pinch of salt, he stopped playing at his peak, what would be Roger’s percentage if he stopped in 2008 (or 2010) or Rafa’s if he stopped after 2013.

There is another stats that is impressive for Nole, won and lost finals, he is ahead of the pack in that one too, but then again, if he plays long enough that stats will drop, like in Roger or Rafa case, titles won, lost, total finals and percentage:

Nole,
Total 62 27 89 0.70
Rafa
Total 67 32 99 0.68
Andy
Total 35 18 53 0.66
Roger
Total 88 48 136 0.65

Van Persie Says:

Good morning lovely J-K,

1. “Nole would look good in oneā€¦Iā€™m sure he has a traditional right to wear one (Serbians have a version of the Scottish kilt)”: did not know this. It’s new for me :)

2. “They are busy talking about the EU Referendum on TV”: Time to say goodbuy to EU? Looking forward for the results

Green Lady Says:

Roger,Rafa and Novak are the only active players on the list so are the only ones that can go higher,i think Roger will obviously surpass Lendel,Rafa will surpass Nastase and Edberg this year,my two cents.

J-Kath Says:

Green Lady
Andy will be returning next week – Davis Cup.

Chrisford 1
Nole as a Brit. would have been super – would have been good for Andy too.

Van Persie
Assume you are a Brit.? You know what will happen if the UK leaves the EU? Nicola Sturgeon will call a new Referundum for Scotland to be independent….and this time she’ll get her majority.

Van Persie Says:

J-Kath,

“Assume you are a Brit.?” you are sweet, but you must have noticed , that my English is bad :)
I am a German-speaking Romanian

Van Persie Says:

P.S. for J-K Your precious prince Charles visites Roumania every sommer. He owns also some propreties in Transylvania :)

Margot Says:

Ahem Van Persie for some of us Brits, “your precious Prince Charles” is very wide of the mark.
I can’t speak for Kath, but I am a republican.
@OK
Lol darling in a competition to find “internet nutters” you wouldn’t even make the top 1,000. Doc’s app tomorrow? Remember I am expecting a detailed account of your new exercise program!
@kath
Pro Europe through and through. A great deal to be fixed of course, but would rather be in the tent. I agree tho., 4 months to go and it already feels like operation overload!

Van Persie Says:

Margot,

ā€œyour precious Prince Charlesā€: I was sarcastic. Off course, I will appologize to the ones, who really appreciate Prince Charles :)
For me, he is a guy, who bought some land in Transylvania and he behaves very nice, when he is there :)

J-Kath Says:

@ Van Persie and Margot

I really enjoyed the Daily Mail article – I could almost maybe afford a house there….not to be near old Charlie but rather liked the Carpathian Mountains.

Not a fan of Charlie or his Mrs…..rather like William and Kate – and Princess Ann is worthy of respect for all the work she does. Otherwise, I’m cross at all the money we have to spend to maintain the Royal households at our expense. So I agree with Margot in principle – except when I compare our system with what is going on in the Land of the (NOT so)free. Donald Trump—oh dearie me.

Van Persie Says:

J-Kath,

Charlies wife does not like Transylvania, so he’s mostly alone there…he’s another person, when he’s in Transylvania. Locals like him very much.

Okiegal Says:

@Margot……My Dr’s. appt. got cancelled….go next week. Don’t hold me to exercising just yet….way too cold to get out and walk….spring is just around the corner. Walking will be on my agenda.

Regarding being a nut…..my friends would differ with you…I am known in my circles as being one crazy chick! I am the one who has more fun than anybody w/o drinking a drop……You have to be a nut to be able to do that, right??? LOL

Margot Says:

@Kath
Don’t look across the pond, cast your eyes towards Scandiland. Doesn’t the queen of Denmark scoot around on a bicycle? That’s my kind of queeny!
@Van Persea …sweetart ;)
Transylvania you say? Prince Charles you say? OMG is he…could he be…a..you know…vampire?
Eek!
@Okiegal
Hmmmmmm, doc’s app cancelled? I demand proof. BTW Yoga classes usually take place in nice warm rooms…just saying.

Green Lady Says:

J-Kath many thanks for that piece of info, its music to my ears ;)….

SG1 Says:

Given Boris Becker’s somewhat up and down moments in his career, I’m surprised he has 713 wins. A much better career than I realized. He never had any years approaching the dominance of Novak’s 2011 and 2015 seasons. He’s next up for Novak. And Edberg at 801. Also suprising to me as his best seasons weren’t as good as Boris’ best from what I remember.

SG1 Says:

Though I personally think that Edberg was a better player than Boris.

J-Kath Says:

GreenLady

Many thanks for your thanks @ 12.34pm ….which part of the n0n-interesting comments I’ve made today pleased you? That Andy is back this week-end????
Cheers
K

Green Lady Says:

J-Kath theres nothing wrong with any of your posts, they are all great to be honest, but when i heard you say Andy will be back playing it stirred my senses ;).

J-Kath Says:

@ Margot

Dear Margot, Queen Elizabeth the second of England and who is Queen Elizabeth the first of Scotland – but you’d never know it! (not sure about Wales) is a venerable lady….can’t see her on a bicycle in crowded London….without it costing us Ā£50 million pounds per minute in security….so I’m letting her off. Otherwise the huge sum you get from the government when you become a widow/widower that is naturally expected to last you for the rest of your life (Ā£2,000 – irrespective of whether you may live another 30-50 years)would have to be cancelled….because her needs are obviously greater than ours. After all, who would polish the silver for free?

Good luck for Wales this week-end and for new Daddy Andy.

PS: Have U seen the nastiness directed at Nole…difficult to understand.

Okie….don’t overdo that exercise to begin with!!

Van Persie Says:

@Margot,

for those ones, with a increased IQ like yours, who still believes in the existence of vampires, he could be one ;)

Wog Boy Says:

“PS: Have U seen the nastiness directed at Noleā€¦difficult to understand.”

JK,

What nastiness and where?
