Novak Djokovic cruised to his 700th career win on Thursday, burying Malek Jaziri 6-1, 6-2 in the second round at the Roger Federer-less Dubai event.

Djokovic’s has lost just six games in two matches and he hasn’t lost – 17 straight now – since Federer beat him in London over three months ago. Of course, with Federer still recovering there’s little hope of anyone even pushing Novak this week in the desert.

Next is former finalist Feliciano Lopez who won his 400th career match earlier in the week. Lopez might get seven games.

“I know he likes playing here and likes the conditions,” Djokovic said of Lopez who he leads 7-0. “He slices, and the ball travels through the air quickly and you’ve got to be very reactive, very quick with the baseline shots, especially when you play somebody like Feliciano, who comes in very often.

“I’m going to try to prepare for this match well and raise the game a little bit more than tonight.”

In the semifinals it’s either the improving Roberta Bautista Agut or Marcos Baghdatis. Either way, that’s easy straight sets.

And in the final it might be Stan Wawrinka or Tomas Berdych. Wawrinka first has to contend with Phil Kohlschreiber tomorrow while in his quarterfinal Berdych battles Nick Kyrgios in a rematch of the Australian’s dominant win a week ago.

Kyrgios has backed up his Marseille win nicely thus far with wins over MKs Martin Klizan and Mikhail Kukushkin. He’s winning, he’s on a roll but Berdych might get back on top Thursday.

“Nick is playing really good, with a lot of confidence,” said Berdych. “His game is on a much higher level than usual.

“He’s doing well. So for me it’s going to be a big challenge. Definitely I have a lot to give him back for last week and just really need to refocus myself, try to raise the game, and play some good tennis again.”

Kyrgios also has a huge Davis Cup tie back in Australia next weekend against the U.S. Might he be looking ahead?

AndyMira Says:

Nick will win..it seems his suspension do wonder to him so far..i hope he keep close his mouth even his suspension will end[or is it end already?]by looking at his scores so far,he still on fire..

chrisford1 Says:

IF you are on fire heading into a QF, Semi, or Final, Nole is usually the bucket of water these days.

nits Says:

I think kyrgios & djokovic haven’t played each other. So this might be interesting if they meet. Kyrgios & raonic are future grand slam winners let’s see who gets first.

AndyMira Says:

CF1,he!he!very funny..somehow i find your every words are all true..but no matter..the action before the fire goes down usually very fascinating to indulge..

Michael Says:

Another feather in Novak’s highly decorated cap !!

Van Persie Says:

AM, hello. Are U there? Do U watch Kyrgios-Berdych match?

AndyMira Says:

Hi VP!i’m here..and yes..i’m watching it now..are u?

Van Persie Says:

I am not so lucky as U are to see the match :(…AM at work. Nick won already the 1 set, I can see the scores. Does he play good?

AndyMira Says:

Ok as usual..but earlier he seems to grimace a little bit while touching his back..hopefully injury not on the horizon..i can’t wait for his match vs wawa and vs nole of cozzz..

Van Persie Says:

hehe, I also wanna see a semifinal Nick-WAwa. Will be interessting. There is a lot of history ;)

AndyMira Says:

Yeah..hopefully nick will keep his mouth shut and not make fun of wawa’s “pink in everything” uniform!

AndyMira Says:

VP..i love how nick step into the baseline when tomas serve his 2nd serve..and he always won a point..very smart play..

Van Persie Says:

I would be curious, how Wawa would behave, if they should play tomorrow against eachother :)
Yep, it will be also nice to see, how Nick would react

AndyMira Says:

And as you can see..he breaks tomas serve!!

Van Persie Says:

Yeeeyyyy! Come on, Nick!

AndyMira Says:

VP…nick vs wawa then..yee haa..

Van Persie Says:

AM, Wawa should also win today . Very nice ;)

Van Persie Says:

Perhaps Wawa will have the outfitt from RG 2015 tomorrow :))

AndyMira Says:

Oh my god VP..you’re right, with nick display his brilliant game like today..wawa will need not only his pyjama pants but also harry potter stick as well..i told you this youngster is crazy!and he said he detest tennis!..i’m shuddered to think what his game look like if he fell in love with tennis..maybe nole 2.6 will born..

Van Persie Says:

I am still not worried, that Nick could be dangerous for Nole…perhaps next year. But he could be dangerous against Wawa tomorrow :)

Daniel Says:

Kyrgios just beat Berdy again, twice in 2 weeks.
Imagine if he beats Djoko in finals, will he be GOAT with positive HxH versus all Big 3?!😜

Hope Wawrinka wins, than we’ll have a blockbuster semis and they can challenge Novak if on a good day. Kyrgios os riding momentum now and back to back finals would be great for him. Plus climbing up the rabkings.

AndyMira Says:

Yeah..he maybe will collect much point from his serve alone..but today he makes 30 winners against tomas 15!But UE almost as much..against nole you can’t make too much UE..but let’s see how he’s gonna fare against wawa tomorrow..

Van Persie Says:

AM, will be now off line
See you later or tomorrow again,
Wish you a nice day

AndyMira Says:

VP,i wish you a nice day also..’sweettart’..he!he!sorry,can’t resist..

Van Persie Says:

Van Persie Says:

I am an honest accountant :)

AndyMira Says:

VP!..i am so so sorry..didn’t mean to hurt you but is that what it meant?I thought it’s a name of a dessert or something..D#@$%..forgive me?

Van Persie Says:

AM, U did not hurt me :) It was funny. Tart ias the name for dessert, but in slang it means also something else :)

AndyMira Says:

VP..no doubt this is JK’s fault..i thought she told us some kind of dessert’s name..TART + SWEET..and naive as i am..i believed her..once again forgive me for being naive and stupid..

Van Persie Says:

AM, no problem. You are not naive and stupid. Not everybody knows the second meaning of the word. J-Kath is Brit, you are not.It was funny. I can’t stop from laughing. :) You made my day :)

AndyMira Says:

VP..as embarrassed as i am now..i can’t stop laughing as well..i think JK will skin me alive later for blackened her name to that extent!..Run for cover!!

AndyMira Says:

VP..as embarrassed as i am now..i can’t stop laughing as well..i think JK will skin me alive later for blackened her name to that extent!..Run for cover!!

AndyMira Says:

Double post again..argh..tension!!

Van Persie Says:

Well, I am sure she will laugh as well :))))

AndyMira Says:

Yeah..and margot as well..i’m sure of it..ha!ha!ha!

jane Says:

honestly, stan’s outfit is just brutal. :O

AndyMira Says:

VP!Are you there? What’s wrong with nole?

FedExpress Says:

Nole being exposed.

FedExpress Says:

MTO for what? eye checking? cant he get an appointment by an ophthalmologist like a normal guy?

FedExpress Says:

hahahaha.

FedExpress Says:

nole is one of the best actors around. should get an oscar this year.

Ben Pronin Says:

Good thing the Academy Awards are coming up! I hear Novak’s nominated for his performance in the US Open final.

FedExpress Says:

didnt he do the same vs goffin last year when he was behind?

Giles Says:

I must say he tries this fakery with all the players except fed.
Well, what else do you expect from the faker?

Ben Pronin Says:

Probably, Novak and histrionics are basically the same thing.

Ben Pronin Says:

Wow, twist of the year. Kyrgios’s title to lose.

Markus Says:

Wow! Some people can really be mean. I’m referring to the tennis crowd in Dubai and some posters here.

AndyMira Says:

VP..i know you read this..sorry about nole k?

Green Lady Says:

Mean spirited people indeed.

Ngentot Says:

The mean-spirited posters(you know who you are) must be on the seventh heaven right now. Yuk

jane Says:

too bad. : / clearly novak’s eyes were bothering him; he’s had contact issues from time to time over the years. sigh… such a fighter, and sad to see his streaks end this way. but it’s been 5 years since he retired from a match so they must’ve been really sore. and well, you can’t really play tennis if you can’t see well. get better novak! <3

jalep Says:

Missed it. Why did Nole retire, serious answer, please? not the histrionics or faking it one.

Was it his eyes? They said something about dizziness?

I was busy and still laughing after watching Kyrgios and Berd — not paying any attention to Nole’s match at all.

AndyMira Says:

If nole keep playing and the result was poor..people will still accused him not try his best..either way nothing he did will satisfy the crowd[whether in the stadium or outside]..

Daniel Says:

Checked scores and and saw a retirement, thought he injury something. Glad is nothing serious. I used contact lents before having surgery and sometimes is awful to play. One time was overly sweating and salt got into my eyes. Burnt!
Clay also if you get a dust wind is annoying.

Daniel Says:

Another record safe, Lendl’s 18 straight final. Fed and Djoko tied second with 17 each.

Robin Says:

Jane – What did happen to Nole? Didn’t see it. Most surprised. Hope he is OK.

Robin Says:

Gosh – too many gloaters. Much too many.

jalep Says:

With contacts, sensitive eyes – all week it has been swirling wind and dust there. You can easily get a corneal abrasion, pink eye, all kinds of trouble.

Wog Boy Says:

What a faker is this Djokovic, his entire career is fake, I am glad he was finally exposed..

AndyMira Says:

Just read that nole retires due to an eye infection..well get well soon champ..see ya at IW!

jane Says:

robin it is an eye infection: have a look at his eye here, and you can see how red it is. ouch! https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CcFGSkgXIAAqK0e.jpg

Django Says:

This is the real Nole, his 17 others were fake.

Wog Boy Says:

Well jane, that is going to teach him a lesson not to muck to much around with Marko while at the tournament..no biggie, next is DC match in Belgrade.

Wog Boy Says:

Daniel, that’s correct, Lendel has 18 stright finals, but no one single GS final in thise 18 finals, what do you thinkg, whose finals are stronger? Records and stats can be misleading.
Besides, Nole has a record for calendar year with 15 finals, he can’t have everything;)

Robin Says:

Thanks Jane – Saw it…and blurry as well as red.

Robin Says:

Yah Wog Boy – what is appals me is the expressed level of sick pleasure.

Daniel Says:

Yeah Wog Boy agree that both Roger and Novak’s are better. That’s why I enated Novak to break that and even get finals in IW because this Lendl record is not a “true” consecutive record as it is Nole and Fed. But as you say, they can’t have it all.

Also agree thay he may have got aomething playing in that water park. Too many Clorine in water plus the sun and is easy to get pink eye or sensitive eye. I used to have those all the time due to staying 8-10 straight hours in the pool. Ads the wind and dry conditions in desert not great for lens at all.

Daniel Says:

His eyes are super green in that pic due to his exposure.

Ben Pronin Says:

WB, me too. Nothing says exposed like losing to the 24th ranked player in Dubai. All those slams and Masters? Hogwosh. Fakovic’s career has been built on fake tournaments and fake wins. Fraud!

Van Persie Says:

Nole, it was just Dubai tournament. Not a big deal;)

Van Persie Says:

AM, am in a PUB.;)

Van Persie Says:

Did not see that set. Reading only now he retired, AM..no worries

Markus Says:

“Lendl record (18 straiight finals) is not a true consecutive record as it is Nole and Fed…”

“Novak and histrionics are basically the same”

“What a faker is this Djokovic…”

Sycophants abound in this blog site.

Daniel Says:

Cheering for Kyrguos now. Back to back titles would be great for him and the tour, ego or not aside.

He could guarantee direct entry in Masters if he goes top 25 in rankings and he will enter IW with two titles creating a side history.

Beter eaynfir a young player to build confidence is just winning, remember DelPo 2008 run when he had 4 straight tourneys. Next year he won a Slam beating Fedal back to back.

Daniel Says:

Markus, the lack of a Slam win in that period Lendl achieve 18 finals say it all. No comparision at all with Fed and Novak did.

Daniel Says:

And Ben is being sarcastic with FedExpress and Giles

Wog Boy Says:

Daniel,
Since I startedLendl thing I’ll take the blame. Lendl’s 18 finalsare not comparable with Toger and Nole 17 finals not just because he didn’t play one single GS final, but he didn’t GS tournament in that period at all. His streak started after USO and finished prior FO and he didn’t play AO. Can you imagine quolity of those 18 tournaments that Lendl played in the space of eight months?

Wog Boy Says:

^^ This time around spelling and other mistakes are result of me texting while driving:(

Ben Pronin Says:

How the fudge did Lendl play 18 tournaments between the US Open and the French? That’s so bonkers compared to nowadays.

I’m not sure we can just say the quality was bad, though. A little more digging would reveal what it was like. Remember McEnroe’s 40+ win streak to start the year ended at the French and included 0 slams. I guess we have to remember everyone skipped the Australian at the time.

chrisford1 Says:

WB – Lendl skipping it was in a time when the AO was considered by many to be on a par with the Canadian National Championships or the German Nationals (since moved to Madrid). And far more inconvenient, plus blast furnace work for low pay when most players did not do the climate conditioning.
Borg tried it once when he was a teen. Never again. Lendl skipped it often when money was better elsewhere. Connors only played it twice. McEnroe might have shown up once to play it.

Different times. The AO was not a bona fide Slam. Free trade had not shifted the jobs and wealth to Asia yet..Going to it was not mandatory.

THerefore, Lendl’s record is legit and it stands.

Wog Boy Says:

CF1,

Of course it is legit, just not comparable, that’s all I am saying. I am not taking a dig at Lendl, on contrary, I have great respect for him and believe he was never given due respect for all he gave to tennis and his results.
As for AO I know it wasn’t popular at the time due to various reasons and lot of players skipped it, though Lendrl was very familiar with Australia, Tony Roche built grass court in Sydney purposely for Lendl to practice in order to win elusive Wimbledon, Lendl lived and trained in Sydney day and night to no avail, he never won Wimbledon.

Van Persie Says:

Ok, Nole did not reach a 18 consecutive final.I hope he will use the frustration in missing this one, by winning the FO. It is more important for him
