It’s Win And In For Svetlana Kuznetsova In The Moscow Final Saturday

It’s simple, if Svetlana Kuznetsova beats Daria Gavrilova Saturday for the Moscow title, she earns the final spot in the WTA Finals in Singapore.

If Kuznetsova loses, that final spot in Singapore goes to Brit Johanna Konta who is already there ready to serve as the alternate if the Russian wins.

Earlier today, Kuznetsova had to fight off Elina Svitolina in a tough semifinal 6-1, 6-7(2), 6-4.

“I knew what I had to do but in the second set I stopped playing the ‘right’ tennis. I realized what was going on, I understood it was wrong but couldn’t do anything about it. And I had to play three sets,” Kuznetsova said.

The Moscow-born Gavrilova toppled Julia Georges 7-5, 6-1 to reach her first career WTA final.

“In the final I know Sveta will get a lot of support, but this is normal,” Gavrilova said. “It has been a great week and I am playing with no pressure so I will go out and play my game and see what happens.”

Kuznetsova has won both meetings with the spunky Australian most recently this year at Rome in three sets.

Margot Says:

Fabulous match between Kutz and Svetolina. Kutz just wouldn’t allow herself to be beaten.
Elina is one to watch next year tho. Great spirit and amazingly powerful forehand.

jalep Says:

Svitolina needs to learn to stand her ground, come in and attack. She can do it. Kuznetsova pushed her around – she’s the boss. Kuznetsova has had some luck bossing Serena, for gods sake, she’s experiences at it and has the mentality. Svitolina has to take note and I detect some real potential in the Ukrainian. I like it!

I’m awake at 2 am! Rats. I was hoping it was 4 am, Margot. Have to go back to sleep but wake me up for the Moscow WTA final, okay?..lol…I’m gonna try — really want to see if how Sveta deals with Dasha :)

Willow Says:

Great to see Kuzy showing some some good form again, always liked her game, seems to be having a career second wind ….

jalep Says:

Hi Willow, are you watching Dasha and Sveta?

jalep Says:

It would be sad if Daria Gavrilova was the one to stop her from going to Singapore, on the other hand Johanna Konta would be IN.

Willow Says:

Hi Jalep im following live scores as thats all i can get at the mom, there is repeats at 12.45pm, and then live WTA at 2.00pm, its bizarre the way the coverage goes on the WTA where i am, plenty of coverage on the ATP, hmmm (SCRATCHES HEAD, DONT GET IT, NEVER DID ) lol ….

jalep Says:

Well, that how it goes everywhere. Tennis Channel will show a boring match between Jack Sock and Gastao Elias before showing Petra Kvitova and American, Lauren Davis, who is way more exciting than Sock in singles, Johnson, Harrison, Querrey and Isner put together.

So I was awake. But it didn’t last long. Missed the match but Congrats to Kuznetsova. I guess Konta will miss out this time. :(

Now Delpo vs Dimitrov is on but I can’t keep my eyes open. Feels like I’ll sleep until noon. Later, Willow …

Willow Says:

Go to bed little Jalep ZZZZzzzz talk later ….

jalep Says:

Wait Willow, I have to see if Delpo wins in 2 this or Dim Dong keeps going. I’m not a Grigor fan. He annoys me since a couple years now.

Okay Dim Dim might win win. That’s it..Cheers and have a great day Willow.

Willow Says:

Yeah a very frustrating player to watch, alot of talent no question, but seems to blow hot and cold, and his hot performances seem to be against my favorites, ie Nadal the other week in China, or against Murray at SW19 in 2014 grr ….

Willow Says:

Well done Delpo come back player of the year, still not sold on his stamina in GS best of 5 sets yet though, and always grimace when watching him because he hits the ball so hard, simply because of all the wrist injury woes ….

Margot Says:

Sorry jalep missed it myself, going to have to see a replay. Just watched the speed and guile of Monica overcome the power of Petra. Terrific match from Monica.
Wow! Foggy Dew stamped on Kohls. Would never predict anything for Mr Unpredictable, so out goes my winning flukey streak. Boo hoo.
And a rather beautiful young gazelle just took the first set from the American pieman.

jalep Says:

Monica Niculescu, I have to admit is an incredible athlete and crafty player. She was wonderful, actually, and got to everything today. Petra not so much. But she had a hockey team supporting her!

Also happy for Gasquet getting to the final. Watching Goffin vs Schwartzman because the happy pieman or In and Out Burgerman won the second set tie break.

Margot Says:

So many interesting matches on jalep, am nervous wreck leaping from one to other in case I miss something!

jalep Says:

Yeah, I finally gave in and ordered Tennis Channel Plus. I’ll be going to donate blood soon and maybe other organs will be necessary. But I have to see all of Singapore otherwise all I do is complain to myself about Tennis Channel.

Margot Says:

I’ve got tennistv for 4 weeks from October 6th to November 6th. A brilliant month to buy. WTF will be on terrestrial TV.
OMG Robert looks about 95!

jalep Says:

Yes I quite like Pablo. Imagine if jolly pieman was turned up as fit as PCB or RBA? I might start liking him – I like him in doulble, pieman is a nice guy but….

Robert is not going to win a set is he

Margot Says:

Doubt it jalep. But then if you’d said to me Foggy Dew will beat Kohls I’d probably have gone “Nah.”
“Foggy Dew” is a character in a long running British soap BTW About elderly men having a ball, so not at all like this one!

jalep Says:

Yay, Margot! your Moscow bracket is still on top (have to go check). Good luck to Pablo — Forza Fabio

jalep Says:

Foggy Dew – I’ll have look him up :)

No, this foggy looks good in a bin liner, according to Willow LOL

Finally hooked on Poldark tho.

Pieman wins. I’m done with this……oh, not so fast – there’s brackets, Andy and the draw in Vienna!

Margot Says:

And pieman wins, but lovely gazelle’s time will surely come.
Probably still there jalep, because n0-one saw Foggy Dew getting there!
I saw JMDP beat gorgeous Grig. Really thought Dani was doing a good job with him too.

Margot Says:

Nice to chat jalep, our time zones seldom meet.
“See” you soon.

jalep Says:

It is nice to chat with you too, Margot. See you in Singapore, Vienna , and Basel. You’re lucky you can trust the terrestrial TV in your country. They just don’t do tennis or politics or much of anything right here. (good coffee, okay at least there’s that)
