Defending champion Agnieszka Radwanska booked the final berth in the last four of WTA Finals in Singapore ousting US Open finalist Karolina Pliskova 7-5, 6-3.

“She definitely served brutal today. All I could do was just wait for the break point,” Radwanska said. “A very tight match and I’m just happy I could do my best at the important moments.

“You’re just waiting and praying that the first serve is not going to be in. She’s definitely one of the best, or even the best server on tour and every break matters.”

In the other match on the day, Garbine Muguruza salvaged a win over Svetlana Kuznetsova 3-6, 6-0, 6-1.

In the semifinals Saturday, Radwanska will meet No. 1 Angelique Kerber. Kuznetsova will take on Dominika Cibulkova.

“It’s the semis so I really have nothing to lose, especially as I’m going to play the best player of this season,” Radwanska said. “She’s been playing amazing tennis all year, on every surface. Hopefully I can play even better than today.”

Radwanska leads the German 6-5.

“Now I know how to go out there with all the pressures I have on my shoulders,” Kerber said. “I know how to play and how to focus on what I’m doing on court. I know how to play these matches right now.”

And Cibulkova is ahead of Kuznetsova 5-3.

Margot Says:

Aggie’s box of tricks was really on display in that match. She was fabulous. Now faces Angie, my favourite, unmissable match.
And Kutz and Cibs, such indominable fighters! Wowzer!

Van Persie Says:

Go Sveta! I just love her. Such a fighter and has a big heart too.

Margot Says:

Fabulous match going on between Kutzy and Cibs……but is anyone other than VP and me watching?…..;)

Margot Says:

Well played Cibs, well played Kutzy! What a battle that was! Such a great match. But LOL when at 5-4 Cibs asked ump what the score was!
Must say what a classically beautiful face Cibs has. So lovely.

Van Persie Says:

Sorry for Sveta, but congrats for a great tournament. Did not see the match, just scores once on a while, was shopping. Watching now Angie vs. Aga. Should be a good one.

jalep Says:

Uh boy. Aga’s my favorite but I’ll be happy for Angie.
Go Aga!

Missed the match but sad for Sveta, although it was an incredible effort through Asian Swing, Moscow to Singapore. I’m sure she’s gutted, so close this time.

jalep Says:

Well, if she has to lose, rather it be to Kerber than to Cibby again! Three times losing to Cibby in 2016 is too much!

jalep Says:

The one I miss this year in Singapore is Kvitova. But Kuznetsova was the biggest story for me this fall… hope she takes heart and comes out healthy and fighting in 2017.

jalep Says:

Aga has to serve better. Angie’s too good ROS.

jalep Says:

Nothing working for Aga. But a great win in Beijing for her and another consistent season.

This one is all Kerber. Go Angie! Good luck vs Cibby tomorrow.

Congrats Margot!

Van Persie Says:

I remember that match at the AO this year, Angie saved a match point against Misaki. I was rooting for Misaki…and wow, Angie had such a terrific 2016.

Margot Says:

Angeeeeeee wheeeeee!
Bit of a damp squib of a match tho., after the other one. Whatever Aga did, Angie did better.

Van Persie Says:

Angeeeee is like a wall, Margot.
