Defending champion Agnieszka Radwanska booked the final berth in the last four of WTA Finals in Singapore ousting US Open finalist Karolina Pliskova 7-5, 6-3.
“She definitely served brutal today. All I could do was just wait for the break point,” Radwanska said. “A very tight match and I’m just happy I could do my best at the important moments.
“You’re just waiting and praying that the first serve is not going to be in. She’s definitely one of the best, or even the best server on tour and every break matters.”
In the other match on the day, Garbine Muguruza salvaged a win over Svetlana Kuznetsova 3-6, 6-0, 6-1.
In the semifinals Saturday, Radwanska will meet No. 1 Angelique Kerber. Kuznetsova will take on Dominika Cibulkova.
“It’s the semis so I really have nothing to lose, especially as I’m going to play the best player of this season,” Radwanska said. “She’s been playing amazing tennis all year, on every surface. Hopefully I can play even better than today.”
Radwanska leads the German 6-5.
“Now I know how to go out there with all the pressures I have on my shoulders,” Kerber said. “I know how to play and how to focus on what I’m doing on court. I know how to play these matches right now.”
And Cibulkova is ahead of Kuznetsova 5-3.
