After his big win over Roger Federer on Wednesday. 39-year-old Tommy Haas was bounced by countryman Mischa Zverev 6-4, 6-4 in the quarterfinals at the Stuttgart Open on grass.

Zverev is into his first Stuttgart semifinal where he’ll meet Feliciano Lopez. The lefty Spaniard ousted No. 3 seed Tomas Berdych 6-7(4), 6-3, 6-4.

In the other semifinal, it’s an all French affair with Lucas Pouille against Benoit Paire. Pouille took out Philipp Kohlschreiber 6-4, 2-6, 6-3.

Paire knocked out Jerzy Janowicz 6-1, 7-6(4).

In Den Bosch, Mischa’s younger brother, Alexander, reached his own semifinal after defeating Julien Benneteau 6-0, 6-4. He’ll face big serving lefty Gilles Muller.

“You always have to stay focused, especially against a guy like Julien,” said the 20-year-old Zverev. “You lose your serve once and it’s tough to get it back. I am happy to be through now. I grew up on clay courts, but the grass is so good these days that you can play your natural game and slide into strokes.”

Top seed Marin Cilic beat qualifier Vasek Pospisil 6-3, 7-5. Up next for the Croat is Ivo Karlovic.

“I feel better and better, obviously after each day I’m getting used to the grass,” Cilic said. “I felt today I played a little bit better than yesterday, despite the difficult gusty conditions. I felt I served well in critical situations and I managed to turn the break around in the second set.”
