It was her fourth career title and first on clay, and she also won the doubles title.
“I never thought that I could win two trophies in one week, especially in Romania, in Bucharest, my hometown,” Begu said. “It’s unbelievable. I am a little bit tired after so many hours spent on court. It’s tough. It was really hot this week here so, yes, I am tired, but happy in the same time. It was an amazing week for me.”
Begu is 4-3 in career finals while Goerges fell to 2-6 and 0-2 in 2017 finals. She was attempting to raise a trophy for the first time since 2011 Stuttgart.
“Irina played a very solid match and she didn’t give me much time to create my shots,” Goerges said. “She took control over the first set, but I always thought I had a chance to come back. I was a break up in the second set, but she was pushing me a lot and I have to give credit to her.”
In the doubles final Begu and Romanian countrywoman Raluca Olaru beat Elise Mertens and Demi Schuurs 6-3, 6-3.
