The Ice Queen Is Back! Maria Sharapova Zings Caroline Wozniacki At US Open
Earlier in the week, Caroline Wozniacki questioned why the US Open would put a doper on Arthur Ashe stadium over top seeds such as herself.
“When you look on centre court, I understand completely the business side of things but someone who comes back from a drugs sentence and performance-enhancing drugs,” Wozniacki said Wednesday after a late night loss to Ekatarina Makarova. “And all of a sudden gets to play every single match on centre court, I believe is a questionable thing to do. I think it doesn’t set a good example.”
The quote got a lot of attention and Sharapova even heard it. So after her win last night over Sofia Kenin, Sharapova hit back at the Dane who is no longer in the event.
“With regards to scheduling, as you know, I don’t make the schedule,” Sharapova responded. “I’m a pretty big competitor. If you put me out in the parking lot of Queens in New York City, I’m happy to play there. That’s not what matters to me. All that matters to me is I’m in the fourth round. Yeah, I’m not sure where she is.”
I’m in the fourth round, where is she? Zing!
Sharapova is correct that she is not in charge of the schedule. And in the past, Wozniacki has been scheduled on center court when her ranking didn’t quite warrant it.
Since returning from her 15-month, Sharapova has been on better behavior, but not anymore. The ice queen is back!
Sharapova is also back on court tomorrow to take on Sevasatova.
