Serena Williams Is Already In Paris Practicing At The French Open
by Tom Gainey | May 20th, 2018, 12:19 pm

After missing the clay season to date (and after attending the royal wedding yesterday!), Serena Williams was on Court Chatrier Sunday practicing for the start of next Sunday’s French Open.

That’s good news for the 23-time Grand Slam champion! Serena last played in Paris in 2016 when she lost to Garbine Muguruza in the final. Overall, Serena has won 13 of her last 14 matches in Paris.

But we’ll see how the 36-year-old fares after playing such a limited schedule this year.

Humble Rafa Says:

our three-time champion

Oh, just three. Mere mortals.

Margot Says:

Daniel: EEEEK! Pretty Boy could get to No 1! :0 How exciting!
Joining in the discussion on the age gap……in fact there’s only 3 “tennis years” between Fedal.

Margot Says:

Aaaaaah! Totally wrong place, sorry!
Edit button would be nice.

Okiegal Says:

@Margot…. don’t worry about the edit button…..die hard TXers cover all threads…… I’m not die hard however …….I skip WTA, but know you are a fan.

jalep Says:

Pretty Boy IS #1 right now in the Race rankings :)

Going to be passed again by Rafa soon but still…it seems natural to see #1 by Sascha’s name.

Margot, you know he’s about the same height as Delpo and Delpo was almost 21 (Birthday late September I think) when he won US Open. Jez Green was saying something about taking longer to get Zverev with his height in the kind of shape Andy Murray was at 20. Sascha is getting there – I could see him make a GS final within the next year. He’s got the drive and work ethic to do it, rarely seen these days.

Here’s Jez Green talking about it – Geez, I miss Andy will he ever come back?!

Serena looking beautiful at the Royal wedding. And good to see her down to business the very next day.

Margot Says:

Great to see you jalep! I seem to remember Jez saying Pretty Boy isn’t as fast as Andy but being 3″ taller that’s not surprising. Jez has certainly bulked him up a bit, same skinny, young frame Andy had at that age tho. I think he’s terrific and I love his on court nerves of steel!
News of Andy is sparse. Found this :
but honestly will be surprised as there’s been no sight of him practising at Wimbledon or anywhere else, which you’d think he’d be doing if his intention was to play in the neat future.

jalep Says:

Thanks Margot.

Don’t like hearing he suffered a setback. That’s very vague and doesn’t give us any idea.

But as the article says he is still on the list to play ‘s-Hertogenbosch…..and I see Halle on the schedule. Oh I hope so. But he’ll be meticulous about being ready when he steps on a court, I feel sure.

He’ll always be faster than Sascha and Andy had the endurance in place earlier than Sascha too. There’s no doubt Sascha is a stubborn fighter as Delpo has been known to be. Delpo also uses his long arms very well for an amazing reach. He’s not as flexible in his lower body though — you don’t see many of the 6’6″ and above players doing the splits in both directions like Novak can 😁

Oh and Serena can — she’s incredibly flexible!

Btw I don’t know if you had a chance to watch WTA Rome final but Svitolina is in unbelievable shape — marathon winning shape and ripped. She’s never been outta shape but she’supped her level. Reminds me of Caroline Wozniacki the year she ran the NY Marathon.

AndyMira Says:

Yess!…Can’t wait for his return JK!…Hopefully our wish will be granted soon!…And please!please!please!…no more setback!

j-kath Says:

AndyMira: Ditto, ditto, ditto et al…..

gonzalowski Says:

“Del Potro knew on Friday, after performing the relevant medical tests, that the injury was not serious. Then, together with his coaching staff, he decided to stay in Europe to prepare the french event. He chose as the headquarters the city of Barcelona and there he has been seen training today in the facilities of the RCT Barcelona”

Humble Rafa Says:

I sometimes wonder why the Elf simply doesn’t skip the clay court season. Given his body conditioning, it’s not good for him. Also, skipping the clay court season is the fastest path to heaven (Pepe people – No, it won’t give you peace).
