Sad news from Juan Martin del Potro who had to retire last week in Shanghai with a knee injury to Borna Coric. Tests later confirmed the Argentine as a patella bone fracture in his right knee.

“It’s a very difficult moment,” said Del Potro in a statement. “I feel very sad. It’s a hard blow that leaves me without strength. It’s very difficult for me to think about recovery again, I did not expect this to happen.”

No timetable has been announced, but the Australian season is still on the table. But heartbreaking news once against hits Del Potro.

The 4th-ranked Del Potro won two titles in six finals and reached a career-high No. 3 this summer.

skeezer Says:

Geez, Delpo! Saw the Vid, bad luck Man. Get well soon.

SG1 Says:

If there’s a positive DelPo can take from this, it’s that he has 3 months to heal and get ready for Australia. If the injury is relatively quick to heal, he doesn’t miss any slams.

Awful, I hate injuries. Good Luck Delpo!!!

Daniel Says:

DelPo can’t get a break. He is back in top 5, made a Slam final and is/was in a good position with Fed getting older and Nadal also out around half the season. OF course there was Djoko, but he was right there intending for big titles, and than this. Hope its the faster recover one and not those cases that takes half a year.

SG1 Says:

It’s definitely not a great situation. I agree with Daniel. He’s right there now poised to win another slam. Let’s hope it is a quick recovery. He matches up well with all of the top guys except for Novak and Andy. Would really like to see DelPo bag a Wimbledon title but at this point, any major would be a good one.

Daniel Says:

With Delpo out I hope Coric and Thiem qualify for London together with Nadal, Djoko, Fed, Zverev and almost assured Cilic and Anderson. This way we have all Slam finals bar DelPo and Coric with recent wins Over Fed to make it more interesting. Kei will fold and enough of Isner already. Although best of 3 fast indoor courts he would have a chance against almost all. Kei, Isner and Coric are dead even in points, fighting for the last spot.
