The Australian Open kicks off with a mega-blockbuster schedule Monday featuring many of the greats in the game. A total of 62 Grand Slam titles will be on display on Rod Laver Arena with Serena Williams, Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Naomi Osaka and Ash Barty in action.
Osaka and Serena might face some resistance in talented youngsters Marie Bouzkova and Anastasia Potapova, respectively.
Federer opens 2020 as a big favorite over Steve Johnson while Djokovic begins his title defense against Jan-Lennard Struff.
On Margaret Court Arena, there are a trio of women’s Slam winners with Sloane Stephens, Petra Kvitova and Venus Williams who will try to avenge her Wimbledon loss to Coco Gauff. Venus is 39, Gauff 15, and the teen is making her Australian Open debut. 2019 breakout star Stefanos Tsitsipas will also be on that court.
Caroline Wozniacki begins her final event out on Melbourne Arena. The 2018 champion will meet American Kristie Ahn. Grigor Dimitrov, Matteo Berrettini and Sam Stosur are also featured. Stosur will take on American teen Caty McNally.
Elsewhere, former finalist Marin Cilic meets Corentin Moutet, Sam Querrey tests Borna Coric, Reilly Opelka faces Fabio Fognini, Milos Raonic meets Radu Albot and Italian teen Jannik Sinner debuts.
