Soon-To-Be No. 2 Medvedev Heads Marseille; Tsitsipas, Sinner In Field
After missing a chance at No. 2 last week in Rotterdam, Daniil Medvedev will reach that second spot a week from Monday on March 15 regardless of how he does in Marseille.
The Russian comes into the event as the top seed but after 20 straight wins, Medvedev has lost his last two matches, both to Serbians in straight sets.
The good news is, there are no Serbian players in the field! Medvedev is joined by fellow Top 10er and 2-time defending champion Stefanos Tsitsipas along with former winner Karen Khachanov, Jannik Sinner, Ugo Humbert and Kei Nishikori.
Seeded quarterfinals: Medvedev-Sinner, Khachanov-Nishioka, Davidovich Fokina-Humbert, Nishikori-Tsitsipas.
Tsitsipas has won his last eight matches at the event and all 16 sets.
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga is also in the draw. He’ll open against the ageless lefty Feliciano Lopez.
Last year, Tsitsipas won his second straight Marseille title beating Felix Auger-Aliassime in the final.
