After an 0-2 stint with the losing World team at the Laver Cup this weekend, Nick Kyrgios has put a lid of his 2021 season due to some knee issues.

“I’ve chosen to fly back to Australia to reassess and am planning to get PRP treatment to settle down and rehab my knee,” Kyrgios said during an Instagram story earlier this week.

“I’m disappointed as it has kept me from playing my best tennis and hopefully with everything going smoothly I will be back to 100 per cent by the Australian Open.”

He also wants to be back with his family.

“I need to go back home,” he said Saturday at the Laver Cup. “I have been traveling for four-and-a-half months now. My mum is not doing too well with her health. I’d like to go back and see her.

“Obviously the conditions in Australia aren’t ideal at the moment, but I don’t want to be on the road playing tennis when I want to spend time with my family.”

The 26-year-old will finish the season 7-7 and will be hovering just around No. 100 when the season ends in a few months. With his ranking so low, there weren’t many events he could get into without a wildcard anyway.

Kyrgios hinted during the Laver Cup that his days in tennis are numbered.

“I’m not going to say it’s my last Laver Cup, but I don’t know how much longer I’ll be around, you know, tennis, so it was just great. I took every moment in today,” he said after losing to Stefanos Tsitsipas in Boston.

“Where I go from here, everything’s a bonus. I’m playing Laver Cup again, and I’m not going to lie, I think this is my last year I will probably play Laver Cup.

“As long as I’m on the court, I will try and give my best, but I’m not going to lie and say that I’m going to plan to play four or five more years on tour. That’s just not me.
