There hasn’t been much news on the Roger Federer front, but there is a confirmation that the Swiss will play his home event in Basel in October, the tournament announced today.

“Roger Federer has officially entered the tournament and will appear on the entry list with the
protected ATP ranking No. 9 and will play his opening match on Tuesday, October 25, 2022.

“After getting through the first round, the next match will be on Thursday, October 27, 2022. The worldwide interest in the return of the hometown hero and 20-time Grand Slam Champion to the ATP Tour is expected to be tremendous.”

Federer hasn’t played since his Wimbledon quarterfinal loss to Hubert Hurkacz.

After undergoing a third surgery on his right knee, Federer was forced off the circuit. But perhaps he could return as early as this summer.

And it was just over a month when Federer posted a video of him practicing so there is hope he’ll return well before Basel.

Federer will be 41 when he plays Basel. He won his last title there in 2019, his 10th in the city.
