At the United Cup, Grand Slam finalists Stefanos Tsitsipas and Matteo Berrettini were big singles winners Wednesday at the United Cup.

Tsitsipas topped Borna Coric in three sets 6-0, 6-7(4), 7-5. The Greek has had a history of troubles with Coric in the past. Today, it was another thriller. Tsitsipas held five match points in the second then fell behind 4-1 in the third before rallying.

Greece and Croatia are tied 2-2 in their meeting with mixed to still finish in Perth.

Berrettini bested Hubert Hurkacz 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 in just under two hours. However, Italy lost Poland 3-2. Led by Iga Swiatek, the Polish women went 2-0 in singles and won the mixed.

Poland moved into the semifinal stage as did the USA who topped Great Britain 4-1. The Greece-Croatia mixed winner will join in the final four along with the best of the three countries who lost today.

In Adelaide, Daniil Medvedev dominated the dangerous Miomir Kecmanovic 6-0, 6-3. The Russian had a tough retirement from Lorenzo Sonego in his 2023 debut. Today was much easier.

“It’s always better to win 6-0 than to win 7-6 saving nine set points and playing one hour, 20 ,” Medvedev said of the Sonego match. “But tennis is not as easy, otherwise everyone would be No. 1, but we have only one. So happy with my level today against a strong opponent. Second set was tougher, but managed to close it out at the end and looking forward to my next matches.”

Medvedev moves into the quarters to face Karen Khachanov who ousted Jack Draper. He remains on a collision course with Novak Djokovic who returns Thursday to face Quinten Halys.
