Elena Rybakina continued to make her case that she’s the next new No. 1. The soft-spoken Kazakh cruised past Marta Kostyuk 6-2, 6-2 in the final of the Stuttgart indoor clay event.

“I’m really happy with all the matches I played here throughout the week, especially in the final. Was very solid from me,” Rybakina said.

“I think that’s a good start on clay season, and hopefully I can continue like this and I will have all this patience for all these long rallies and long matches for the rest of the tournaments.”

Rybakina wins her third title of the season which leads the tour. As does her 26 wins in 2024.

“I think just the consistency, of course, and how I’m managing to play all these tournaments till the end, because it’s really tough with the schedule which we have, with all the jet lags and changes of the surface,” she said.

“Just overall it’s been a lot of matches, and I’m happy that for now I’m managing to fight through all these tough matches and be able to be in the finals.”

Kostyuk was appearing in her biggest final. This has been her best career run of late.

“Of course it sucks to lose in the final, especially a match like this. I couldn’t produce a fight. You know, she was really on top today,” Kostyuk said.

“But overall, obviously very proud of myself this week,” she added.

“I think 90% my tiredness played a role today. Every morning I didn’t know what to expect from myself on the court today, because really me being able to pull off this whole week and play an amazing tennis yesterday was something incredible and something I would never expect I can do.

“But today, you know, obviously I was very nervous. I wanted to win a lot this one, and yeah, I think there were a lot of things together. Yeah, I just couldn’t probably bear it anymore.”

Rybakina now has eight career titles with half coming in the last 13 months. And of course she has Iga Swiatek’s number.

The problem for Rybakina, winning Stuttgart also awards her a Porsche, and the Wimbledon champion still doesn’t have a license to drive.

“For sure I will drive it around, and we are thinking to have it in Dubai. So it’s going to be for sure Stefano driving, maybe my mom, hopefully me soon.”
