Iga Swiatek finally got a test Tuesday at the Madrid Masters needing three sets to put away Beatriz Haddad Maia 4-6, 6-0, 6-2.

Though after dropping the first from 4-1 up, Swiatek torched the Brazilian winning 12 of the last 14 games.

“I needed to for sure stick to the tactics, because in the first set I started making too many mistakes. I started playing too fast,” Swiatek told the WTA.

“I just needed to really get back to basics and what I wanted to play today. It took me a while, longer than usual, but I’m glad that it happened after the set anyway.”

Madison Keys will be next for Swiatek after the American also came from a set down in an odd one over No. 8 seed Ons Jabeur 0-6, 7-5, 6-1.

Jabeur, who was 2-0 against Keys, broke out early winning the first eight games to go up a break 2-0 in the second. But Keys would get off the mat and take eight of the last nine games for her first win over the Tunisian hero.

After Jabeur broke for 1-0 in the second, Keys never faced another break point.

“At one point it was, like, wow, this is embarrassing,” Keys said. “We’ve got to figure something out. But I think eventually I was just, like, I’m just going to start going for things. I’m going to start just trying to focus on myself and my game, just try to get into every single game and just try to make things competitive.

“Once I did that, it felt like the momentum switched really quickly. Being able to get even just to 2-All in the second set, all of a sudden I felt like, okay, I’m actually really in this and I can win this match.”

On tap Wednesday, the quarterfinals wrap up with defending champion Aryna Sabalenka meeting 17-year-old Mirra Andreeva. Sabalenka took their only battle in the fourth round last year in Madrid.

No. 4 Elena Rybakina clashes with countrywoman Yulia Putintseva with Putintseva ahead 2-0. Rybakina has won her last 15 on clay.
