I hear your concern Alison, but if I were a player, I’d use the same strategy as Rafa. It’s smart. Work in increments and don’t allow yourself to take on anymore worries other than what’s right in front of you. No sense in being overwhelmed. Believe me Rafa has confidence, he just doesn’t underestimate the competition. If you listen to Nole and most of the top players, they say the same thing. Let the haters hate.

For seven years, Nadal’s consistent strategy at pressers has been: lower all expectations, portray humility, talk about the next small step, talk about difficulties, don’t talk about winning the title. He basically says the same nothings and generalities over and over and over again so he can’t be misquoted and proetcts his image. Having an expensive publicity agent (Benito) who coaches him to say nothing and speak in generalities surely helps.

If every player adopted the same PR strategy can you imagine how boring it would be? In any case, every press conference of every player should be taken with a pinch of salt. What they say and what they think and do may not be the same.

Anyways, No. 80 Bellucci (who has won only 4 or 5 grass court matches in his career) seems to be injured or in a bad slump. He lost in the first round of Madrid, Rome and French Open and has not been on any main draw in any grass warm up tourney. So Nadal should start off with a good match.

Atleast rafa is not deluded like his fans. And you have to admire fans who like to pinch their favorite’s cheeks. tells you where the admiration comes from. definitely not the top half of the body.

I hope rafa has more mature fans then people who want to pinch his cheeks or have other fantasies about him. I can understand porn stars/actresses having those kind of fans, but tennis players? really?

I am sure even rafa realises he has been aided immensely by the slowing down of playing conditions. If we had Grasscourts playing like in the 90s, it would be novak and not nadal with 2 wimbledon titles right now.

I am confident, novak will end his career with more wimbledon/usopen/ausopen and year end championships than nadal.

Nadal just is not a confident bloke because deep down he knows he’s pushing tennis rules everytime he plays (time violations, medical time outs, illegal coaching and who knows what else).

Federer/sampras on the other hand had clean games and never abused tennis rules to suit their needs. They are confident about their games and sampras maintains to this day, that he can beat anyone on his day – even on the slowed down grass courts of wimbledon.

sometimes a clear conscious mind gives confidence that a guilty mind cannot.

Why are you wasting your time if you do not like this? If you do not like a movie, a rock band, a football team, one person, why waste your energy and keep constantly talking nonsense again and again. It is better to focus on what you love on life, motivates you, makes you happy and not behaving like a spoiled child when they do not give the reason, expresses your tantrums. It is not for a mature person to accept differences and preferences for other things, other issues and accept that you do not live on an island. While he normally is falsely modest, after last year’s beatdown by Nole, he’s simply stating a fact. He doesn’t expect to beat Nole again if he reaches the final.

He’s gotten away with that up till now. Why would he not be confident about getting away with it again?

And last I checked, calling the trainer is not against the rules. As for illegal coaching, a player can’t control their coach. I doubt you can hear what they’re saying anyway, nor does he need it.

Someone is butt hurt that their player hasn’t won a major title since January 2010 and doesn’t look like winning another one again.

Nadal appears more modest when fancying his chances at the Premier event. But having reached five finals in Wimbledon, he has proved that he is not a one surface wonder. And this year too, he has good chances with momentum in his favour. I would not be surprised if he wins Wimbledon this year given the fact that he has a easier road to the finals.

Here there are many “trolls” unfortunately (See the meaning in Wikipedia or any page). It is the responsibility of each respect the opinions of others and maintain a climate of community, not attack each other wild. Should the responsible for the page to prevent certain individuals continue to participate for not showing their personal misery makes this a barrage of insults, attacks and do not facilitate the peaceful exchange of views. Hopefully Tennis X and other pages do something, but the level is going to approach such a hostile environment such as prisons.

I have a word of advice for you. Don’t bother with trolls. Eventually when rafa’s results taper off, you will see lot of federer trolls giving back good.

Anthony Edward, this goes for everyone without exception. I like Federer, Djokovic and any other but prefer Nadal. That’s my personal taste and nothing will change. You have yours and will not change either. What I see here, unfortunately, is the indiscriminate use of attack each other, more worthy of football as a sport like tennis educated. About you, there are more fans of Federer that Nadal (I understand), so there are more attacks on the Spanish than vice versa. And that makes attacks turn against the Swiss or any other player who offends a favorite player. Is not it better to make a personal introspection to see why instead of insulting or assaulting opinion without evidence, as is your case, exchange views so polite? If both do not like someone, why keep writing about him. Come on, say something different from time to time, and not left locked up in one.

Once again, for some of you who continue cast aspersions on Nadal’s motivations; the facts:

1) small town ‘boy’ still lives with his family
2) obsessive compulsive behavior (hence insecurity)
3) dictator coach who drills in this attitude of ‘not good enough’
4) the fact that there are many well documented examples of public figures who are ‘animals’ on the ‘stage’ but kittens off-stage.

Does it really require a triple digit IQ to compute this or do the so-called haters simply require another tidbit for their ceaseless, repetitive anti-Nadal fodder?

Worse than not taking into account the above facts (and I need not include any of those with kindergarden- mentalities/vocabularies who use terms like ‘Fedtards’ or ‘Rafatards’; those obviously do not have the intellectual capacity to take facts into account) is the notion that any one of you can look into the soul of another.

Do you really believe you have the wherewithal or even the right to interpret Nadal’s (or Murray’s with his back grabbing, or Djokovic’s with his huffing and puffing etc) motivations?

Fine and dandy that you prefer someone else, but getting into motivations is just arrogant and not based in any fact whatsoever.

there’s a simple solution to the hostility between camps.

1.federer stops being worshipped as a divine figure and a player on a completely different level to players who consistently beat him.
2. nadal’s tennis ability stops being dismissed/disparaged – a reaction to the threat he poses to federer’s legacy.

I’m not anti-nadal. he’s just not my favorite Spanish sports figure.

it’s my preference, i don’t like nadal’s tennis but i do love the smooth, effortless climbing style of Contador…only the great ‘il Pirata’, Pantani comes close, imo.

people change, Fleischer, even you might someday. Do you allow for that?

What I’ve seen on many forums, not just tennis, Fleischer is that moderating in a fair and balanced way is not realistic.

Therefore, I prefer looser moderating in general.

I am not bad mouthing you. give up your axe to grind with me. I change with the times. you aren’t telling me who you are/were on TT and I don’t care.

Kaiser has Rafa wimbledon outfit. Its ok, white with a black and red and multicolored trin. I have Sharapova’s outfit its great. Very classic. I think you ( and many here) got it wrong. Many tennis players including Rafa do not even look at the draw. They focus on the next match. They do not think about the final two weeks ahead. Any sport psychology book recommends this type of focus and thinking.

Go back and check Rafa’s interviews from years ago. He always has the same answer! “Come back and ask the day before the final! there are two weeks left! I will answer you if I’s in the final!”
