But that trophy is kinda wacky looking. At first I thought it was some blinged out mic into which he was going to give his speech. And then I thought maybe it was a golden weapon, with which to beat off opponents or something, lol. But nope. It was the prize. Along with a lot of cashola, of course.

Djokovic has proven he is the #1 player in the world. Both Federer and Nadal are running out of places to hide. Even clay can’t save Nadal.

Djokovic’s name be #2 in the ranking but in reality he is bar far #1 player right now, without a doubt.

I think it was Tignor who wrote about the WTA rankings and how it’s not the players’ fault that the system is messed up. He also said that the ATP system is actually pretty messed up, too, but covered by the fact that Nadal and Federer have always been at the top so it made sense. However, it does seem kind of weird that Djokovic still has a lot of work to do before reaching number 1, despite all of his titles. Although it’s not THAT weird since Nadal still holds 3/4 slams. But I did find it super confusing today when I was trying to guesstimate when Djokovic could become number 1 and Madrid is currently counted twice because it’s at a different part of the calendar and Rome isn’t counted at all at the moment so I really don’t feel like spending the time calculating all of that.

I guess my point is I was pretty baffled to see Nadal has a 2000+ lead on Djokovic even though it should only be like 800+. Obviously not Nadal’s fault (unless you blame him for winning so much) but the system is a little odd.

Ben, nadal doesnt have his barcelona pointed and wont get them til august as a penalty for playing too few five hundreds last year.

They have Madrid twice because of then change in the schedule, the points drop off by date not tournament.

I know, it took me a while to realize that but it confused the hell out of me first. That Barcelona thing is dumb, imo. There’s definitely got to be a more simple system they can implement. I don’t understand why they make tournaments not count. It’s basically like if Djokovic reaches number 1 but is ahead by less than 500 points, then he’s not really number 1, but technically he is, but then he kinda isn’t. I mean that’s just dumb to me. Why not just add the 500 points now, it’s not like there’s a chance they’ll randomly vanish by August.

The tennis ranking system has always been dumb on both the mens and womens side.

Point and case, when Safina was ranked #1 who never won a slam and chocked at every opportunity.

Now Djokovic comes in winning a slam and 3 masters titles in a row and beats the man in front of him on every occasion in finals is ranked 2nd. Baffling beyond baffling.

IMO, ranking should be more based on what is going “right now” and not what happened 12 months ago. More weight should be placed on the current and less on the past, if those reading this, get my drift.

Never agreed with the ATP abolishing the ATP Race, thought it served a better purpose for the fans. Entry rank is just for seeding, nothing overly wrong with that, imo. The ATP thought it was confusing to have both, but at least the Race took off some emphasis on the Entry rank. Now that’s the only focus and it’s so much more confusing.
