Noah the Freak

Anyone who watched the NCAA final last night in which the Florida Gators pounded the UCLA Bruins has to agree that Joakim Noah is a freak. Why? The kid is, according to announces, seven feet tall and can run and jump like a gazelle.

Now imagine in tennis a guy taller than Dr. Ivo Karlovic who can run and jump as well as say James Blake. Or just imagine James Blake as a seven footer! Ha.

Noah in Final Four

Pretty incredible story really when you think about is that Yannick Noah’s kid, Joakim, is playing today – in just an hour – in the NCAA Basketball Final Four. Noah and his Florida Gators are favored to win the title outright and in just under an hour will be playing the underdog George Mason Patriots.

What’s so remarkable about Noah is that a year ago as a freshman at Florida he was basically sitting on the bench. Now he’s being touted among the game’s best players and a would-be Top 5 NBA draft according to some “experts.”

Lessons from March Madness

So did you catch the March Madness excitement this weekend? No, not the tennis – sorry – but i’m talking NCAA basketball.

This weekend showed – er the last two weeks – why this 64-draw event is one of the best shows in all of sports. Upsets where everywhere, buzzer beaters almost non stop and the storylines aplenty. At the end of the day Sunday the tournament was left with zero No. 1 seeds in the Final Four – first time since 1980 – and Yannick Noah’s kid, Joakim, and his Florida Gators as the new tournament favorites along with UCLA, LSU and Cinderella George Mason.

Noah Part of March Madness

In case you have never heard of him – and if you live outside of the U.S. and France you probably haven’t – Yannick’s ponytailed son, Joakim, is part of the NCAA March Madness basketball tournament. Noah is a 6-foot-11 sophomore for the Florida Gators, which thanks to his strong play just won the SEC tournament Sunday.
