Moya, Djokovic Into ATP Umag Quarters

Posted on July 28, 2006

Spaniard Carlos Moya moved one step closer to attaining his fifth Studena Croatia Open title in Umag today as he dismissed German Simon Greul, dropping just three games. Moya, who won 6-2, 6-1 in exactly one hour, has a particularly strong record at the tournament, having won four of his previous five finals at Umag. In the quarterfinals, Moya will be looking for his 38th victory on the Croatian clay.

Moya will face the Argentine Juan-Pablo Guzman, who dropped 11 games against fellow Umag debutante Carlos Berlocq in a 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 victory. Guzman had not won an ATP-level match this season.

Serbian Novak Djokovic, who last week won his first ATP title in Amersfoort, and recently reached the Wimbledon fourth round and the Roland Garros quarterfinals, will next face Jiri Vanek from the Czech Republic.

The 28-year-old Vanek came through in two close sets today, defeating countryman Lukas Dlouhy 7-6(4), 6-4.
