Rain Cuts Short Clay Play Tuesday at ATP Palermo

The dirtballers in Palermo found clay, but they also found rain Tuesday -- before the deluge No. 3 seed Gilles Simon and No. 4 Nicolas Almagro both advanced into the second round.

Simon defeated Andreas Seppi of Italy 6-0, 6-7(6), 6-2 while Almagro overwhelmed Austrian Oliver Marach 6-1, 6-4.

Also beating the drops on Tuesdsay were Spaniard Oscar Hernandez who beat Philipp Kohlschreiber of Germany 6-1, 6-1, and Jan Hajek, a 6-3, 7-6(2) victor over Czech countryman Bohdan Ulihrach 6-3, 7-6(2).
