Italian Flavia Pennetta made good on an upset of Venus Williams earlier in the weekend, on Sunday clinching the title at the Bangkok Open with a decisive 6-1, 6-3 win over unseeded Taiwanese teenager Chan Yung-Jan.

Pennetta beat the 18-year-old Yung-Jan in just over an hour of court time, but the match was halted by a rain delay lasting four hours.

Chan broke Pennetta in the first game of the second set but was then broken twice for the match.

Pennetta spoke of her gained confidence after upending Williams in the semifinals.

"I think it's one of the best wins of my career and gives me so much confidence to go out there and play so well," Pennetta said.

For Pennetta it was the first title since 2005 when she won at Bogota and Acapulco.
