My new favorite women’s player, Jelena Jankovic, is already through today at the US Open. The Serb drama queen is the first player into the quarterfinals, and as long as she doesn’t win the title in NY I’ll be rooting for her and her quest to finish the year No. 1 without reaching the Slam final.

With a set in hand, serving 5-4 against Andy Roddick, Ernests Gulbis finally flinched. Gulbis never saw another lead again the rest of the match.

“No, I was so pissed off that I didn’t think about anything,” Davenport said.

“It was a tough match,” Murray said. “[Llodra] moves really good up at the net, doesn’t give you a lot of rhythm. There’s very few guys that play that well up at the net.”

I really am starting to love women’s tennis, it’s such a mess!

“I felt good, that’s the best I’ve played in four or five months,” Roddick said. “Something about this place always gets me energized and the fans are great and I’m just happy to be healthy.”

“I think it was a good match to start off with,” Federer said. “Never saw my opponent before. Never saw him play obviously because I never saw him. That was the tricky part. I thought the other guy played good for the pressure he was under.”

The “B”-level Americans also headed for the exits, with losses by Ahsha Rolle, Shenay Perry, Vania King, Alexa Glatch, and Asia Muhammad.

Elite tennis players have used a variety of stroke mechanics and tactics to succeed. Therefore, different physiques have been seen frequenting the winner’s circle in tennis. Boris Becker, Gustavo Kuerten, Jimmy Connors and Andre Agassi did not have similar body types, but each won a lot of big matches.
