Here is some early video out of Beijing of the on-court ceremony for the new WTA No. 1, Caroline Wozniacki.

Wozniacki won her third round match over Petra Kivitova 63, 62 assuring her of passing Serena Williams for the WTA No. 1 ranking on Monday.

Wozniacki is the 20th player in WTA history to rank No. 1. But some critics will argue the Dane is undeserving because she has not won a Grand Slam title. Jelena Jankovic and Dinara Safina recently achieved the top spot without a Major win.

WTA CEO Stacy Allastar presented Wozniacki with the No. 1 trophy. Wozniacki now plays Ana Ivanovic who beat Elena Dementieva.

Congratulations to Caroline!

I will update this post with better video and quotes when available.

Serena and Kim have all but the FO tied up year after year. Caroline has worked hard this year and made good improvements. If she can improve as much next year she may just get a slam. She’s young. While she gets alot of flack about being “lil Miss Sunshine” I see nothing wrong with enjoying what you do and letting others know.

Kimberly Says:

Congrats to Caroline.

And Congrats to Ana Ivanovic on her great win over Dementieva.

Call me crazy but I have a strange feeling Ivanovic is going to win this match against Wozniaki tomorrow. I hope actually.

Unless of course she self destructs I think she has all the tools to win this match. Would be huge for her confidence. Would love to have another great player in the mix with the WTA. Desperately needed. Too bad Sharapova doesn’t seem to be the one joining :(

jane Says:

Kimberly, I second your post, in all regards.

Kimmi Says:

congrats to wozniacki too. yay for ana. when i saw the results this morning could not believe my eyes.

go ana! even if she loses she is gaining grounds so far. great win last night.

Kimmi Says:

wozniacki has a great smile. Hope she wins a grand slam one day.

Thangs Says:

Congrats! Win a slam and shut the arrogant younger sister!

Correct me here if I’m off base…but I’m thinking that Serena Williams can’t just keep saying everyone knows who the REAL number 1 is if other people keep earning that spot. Hmm…come to think of it, I don’t know that she’s actually said that recently.

Wozniacki isn’t my favorite player, but I have to acknowledge that she’s worked hard to earn this ranking. She’s only 20 and I hope this is just the beginning for her.
She seems pretty oblivious to the negative commentary so that could be a good sign.
