World No. 1 Rafael Nadal took home the 2010 Alma Award Thursday during the Real Madrid Foundation awards.

Spanish football star Iker Casillas presented Nadal with the special honor which was given to recognize Rafa’s career achievements, his values and his social commitment.

The event was held at the Theatre of the Canal in Madrid.

Next up for Nadal is the BNP Paribas Masters in Paris, which is the final week of the ATP’s regular season. Nadal is scheduled to be joined in the field by Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray and just about everyone else in the Top 30.

Matches in Paris begin on Sunday.

UPDATE: Rafael Nadal has withdrawn from the Paris tournament. The Paris draw is being done as I type. Rafa is expected to have a press conference to explain his withdrawal. I’ll post details shortly.
