steve-o Says:

Go Del Potro! Hope he can come back to his best level sometime this year.

Kimmi Says:

OK..all eyes will be on del potro. how will this talented argentianin fair up in his return.

last year in tokyo on his first return, he drew F-Lopez in the first round and he was rooted 6-3 6-0. I am reading that since then he is been training hard, ready for new season. what a concidence he draws F-Lo in sydney…again!

F-Lopez has not been great since then either, so there is still hope. go delpo! couple of matches in sydney will be a great start.

Kimmi Says:

wish i could see this match. delpo is up a break against F-Lo. keep going delpo

dunbar Says:

5 all. No stream?

dunbar Says:

Tie break. mesmerising watching a scoreboard, not to mention highly decadent. What, do you have nothing better to do with your worthless time? Anyway, seems like Delpo is winning his service games more easily than Lopez.

dunbar Says:

o-oh, Lopez has first mini-break.

Kimmi Says:

he was up a break, gave the break back now tie break. He is not winning a good % on his second serves. not good

Kimmi Says:

score board stuck! oh, i think rain delay. other courts are suspended

dunbar Says:

This is either the longest rally in history, or the scoreboard has got stuck.

dunbar Says:

Ah, that explains it, Kimmi. Right, that’s it, bed at last.

Kimmi Says:

play is resumed. delpo is fighting dunbar. he got the mini break back 5 all

Kimmi Says:

and gave it away again. aaaagh, now F-lo with set point..and takes the set.

oh well, he tried. confidence is very important thing in tennis and delpo is lacking a lot of that at the moment.

now he needs to forget the first set and start again

Cherry Says:

It is good that Del Potro is finally back! I hope he has already fully recovered from his wrist injury. http://www.tennisround.com

dari Says:

nobody has luck on the livestream for this one?

dari Says:

c’mon delpooooo

jane Says:

Not looking good for Delpo right now. 4-2 F-lo in second set tiebreak. I can’t find one stream of this match unfortunately, so staring at scoreboard, probably like the rest of you.

jane Says:

Well Delpo’s clawed back to 4-5 in the breaker, but F-Lo to serve for the match now…

jane Says:

Delpo’s not giving up, 5 all in the breaker … make that 6-5! Set point to Delpo and … he loses it. 6 all.

dari Says:

who knew watching numbers change could be so exciting

jane Says:

Arrgh Delpo took both of F-Lo’s service points and then lost both of his own. 7-6 in the breaker, match point to F-Lo on his racquet. He loses it again. 7 all!! This is crazy, sure wish I could see it. 8-7 for Delpo, again, he has set point on his racquet. Nope. Denied. 8 all!! My god. 2nd serve… 9-8 for Delpo, set point. F-Lo to serve. 9 all. F-lo, second serve. 10-9 for Delpo – yet another set point on his racquet. How many is that? 5 set points? …

FINALLY! He gets the second set.

I think he’ll win the match now, as momentum and confidence will have swung his way.

dari Says:

yeaaahhhhhh! delpooooo!

steve-o Says:

Great mental toughness from Del Potro to face down match points and bag the set. I wish there were a livestream available.

dari Says:

del potro has had to fight a lot in this match, including that game to hold. if he makes it through, this is a nice confidence-building match for his first outing. let’s go!

dari Says:

OMG, this game has been going on for soooo long. i cant wait to watch this on rerun/you tube, it is very dramatic and drawn out.

dari Says:

and delpo holds! i wishh i were able to see the quality of these points.
i wish delpo would break now after holding that game! fe-lo seems to be holding pretty easily

dari Says:

NOT fair, fe-lo holds in like two minutes

steve-o Says:

Both players appear to be showing a lot of fight. I thought Lopez would crack after losing that tiebreak, but he’s still plugging away. Del Potro continues to struggle through his service games, but he’s not giving up, either.

steve-o Says:

Yay! Del Potro prevails in a third-set tiebreak. Lopez also did really well to stay in it.

Sean Randall Says:

Three tiebreaks! Great win for JMDP!

dari Says:

whoaaa! delpo wins in three sets, 3 hours 20 mins. great match from both guys, very proud of delpo getting the win. if he is not too tired out, this should be a good spring for him. like i keep saying, can’t wait for the replay on tennis channel!

Skeezerweezer Says:

Kimmi, dari, dunbar, and anyone who saw it. How is the big guy doin? Is this a good start?

jane Says:

I think this is a good win because he had to fight so hard, and he came through. That will only help his confidence going forward.

dari Says:

Well I didn’t really “see” it, I watched numbers change on the scoreboard.
Saw some highlights on YouTube and there were some very quality points, but there was definitely some see-saw up and down moments for delpo (and lopez for that matter).
Delpo would need SEVERAL deuce to hold, long games, ten minutes or more, then felo would hold in two or three mins. It’s just rustiness hopefully, as he shouldn’t be working that long for hold serve.
But its great match toughness for delpo against a big server, so if he is not too exhausted, it could be a good week for him.
It’s just scary to think he has fourth round points to defend and if he doesn’t get those he will be much lower than 240 or wherever he is now. Should be brief, but still.
Anyway, Congrats to delpo!

dari Says:

Fourth round in AO, that is.

jane Says:

dari, not only is Delpo’s defending of points a scary situation for him, but for the other players, he’s a scary prospect to have to face early on in the AO draw. He could easily upset someone right off the bat! With his ranking, I am assuming he could play a top guy in the first rounds. I’ll bet those players are saying in their vespers: “please lord, don’t put Delpo on my side of the draw…please”.
