On Monday tennis queen Maria Sharapova launched her new line of candy called “Sugarpova” at Henri Bendel’s in New York. What followed was a whirlwind media tour that’s likely still ongoing for the Russian.

“I just wanted to write a little note to say thank you for the incredible support yesterday at Henri Bendel. I never expected to see so many fans and so much Sugarpova love! It seemed like the tennis gumballs were the clear winner as I think I signed more of those packages than the rest! Now it’s US Open time,” Sharapova wrote Tuesday on Facebook.

And she was busy.

According to her website, here’s detail on Sugarpova, “Maria has created her own candy business to offer an accessible bit of luxury, interpreting classic candies in her own signature style. A long time candy lover with a surprising sweet tooth, Maria is bringing a new level of quality to the candy category through fun, unexpected types and shapes – with playful names to match. Wrapped up in a beautiful package, it’s both style and substance, just like founder Maria Sharapova.”

To bring her candy dreams to life, Sharapova partnered with renowned candy expert Jeff Rubin, founder of international retailer IT’SUGAR. “Maria Sharapova is the quintessential example of today’s young woman – she’s always on the go, fun, fierce and vivacious,” he said. “She’s the type of girl who never settles, and Sugarpova perfectly embodies her spirit of both style and substance.”

Here’s a sampling of the tour:

RZ Says:

I can’t help but think of a bad James Bond vixen when I hear “Sugarpova”

Colin Says:

I’m sick of the myth of Sharapova’s great beauty. She’s OK, but she’s not nearly as attractive as Tsvetana Pironkova.

Wog boy Says:

Colin,

You made me going through photos of Cvetana Pironkova and I have to dissagree with you though I have special feelings for Bulgarian women and I find them very atractive unles they are disc throwers. Cvetana looks more like Victoria Beckham (not saying they are not nice just different) to me but if I can vote for somebody as contender to Maria then I would vote for that Dutch girl Arantxa Rus, she is nice and she plays nice tennis too:)

Colin Says:

Nope, Rus doesn’t appeal to me. She’s the sporty outdoor college type. Pironkova, with those dark eyes and absolutely lovely mouth, is delicately feminine. The main thing is, they (and others) are better looking than Sharapova.
By the way, strange to see a Dutch girl with a Spanish Basque name!

Wog boy Says:

Colin,

The way (nice way) you described her (Pironkova) leaves me without argument. She does look traditionaly Bulgarian though it is quite common to meet Bulgarian women with dark hair (vast majority) but blue or green eyes, stunning. Though they are Slavic people they don’t look traditionaly Slavic, but then again neither we Serbs look like Russian, Polish or Ukrainian Slavic people. I think too many empires went across Balkan:)
and everyone left something behind:)

alison Says:

Colin and Wogboy i think its a matter of preference, whats apealing to one aint necassarily to another and vice versa, same for woman who seem to go potty over David Beckham who ill be honest has never done anything for me at all(highly overated IMO),the woman you all mentioned are all beautiful in different ways, however there are also many beautiful woman walking the streets everyday in every walk of life.

Wog boy Says:

BTW, her name Cvetana means flower.
Cvet = Flower, English spelling Tsvetana is to make eaisier to pronounce her name.

Wog boy Says:

Alison,

My wife likes David as long as he doesn’t talk.

I know there is beatufull women around us but it is in human (man) nature to believe that the grass is greener on the other side of fence.

alison Says:

Wogboy your wife has a point i think the voice was what put me off David,Thierry Henry IMO is way sexier, shame he decided to play for the gooners grrr, when he should have picked our team Liverpool, anway its ok to look as long as thats all you do i suppose, anyway how are you feeling about Noles chances this year at the USO?

Wog boy Says:

Alison,

You well said:)

Sorry, no prediction but I am hoping for Nolay or Nolandy final. It is long two weeks and everything is on the table. Federer is inform player and he is the player to beat. I don’t really see anyone else taking USO, no dissrespect for the others. It might be surprises on the way to final but one of these three should take the title.

Wog boy Says:

“You said it well” should say.

alison Says:

Wogboy Rafas my favorite player, with Andy a very close second,so im hoping he can bag his 1st slam, but i think it will be tricky to beat Nole and Roger back to back, however he did at the olympics,so it is possible, ill hope for the best and see what happens looking forward to it anyway.

Colin Says:

Wogboy, thanks for explaining the spelling. I wondered why you started it with a “C”.
Having said what I said in comparing Pironkova and Rus, I should confess that, ironically, I married a tall blonde myself!
Mind you, that was in 1964, and it didn’t last long.
