Roger Federer announced on twitter today that he will be part of the Swiss Davis Cup team that hosts Kazakhstan for quarterfinal play in April.

With Australian Open champ Stanislas Wawrinka also available giving the team a powerful 1-2 punch, and with Spain and Argentina already eliminated, are the Swiss, who just toppled Serbia, now the favorites of the Davis Cup.

In the semis Andy Murray’s Great Britain team could await the favored Swiss, or Italy. Then in the finals the Czechs or the French are the likely opponent.

The 32-year-old Federer has never won the Davis Cup.

pigoonse Says:

Easy Poll. The new Davis Cup powerhouse Great Britain, of course, will win.

RZ Says:

I’d say yes, but you can’t underestimate Czech Republic or France.

Humble Rafa Says:

Now that the Swiss have a decent No.1 who is also patriotic, they may actually win the Davis Cup.

It wasn’t possible a few years ago.

Djokerfan Says:

Such a pity Djokovic was exhausted. Anyway, Swiss the favourites now for sure!

Giles Says:

I know it’s a tad premature but already looking forward to the semis. Provided GB take down Italy I think they will meet the boys in red and white in the semis. My money is on Andy doing the bizz for GB!

Tootie Says:

It is my hope the Swiss don’t win it. And it pleases me to see Federer #8 in the rankings–while Stan is #3. I love to see humility in players. It is good to be determined as long as your motive is not self-glorification. (And it really irks me the bad example Federer set for young boys when he lived in sin many years with his girlfriend.)

And he impregnated her while they were unmarried. Humble just pumps, no babies involved. Higher soul.
