Discussion between Rory and Woz probably went something like this:

RM: Hi Hon…how was your day?

CW: OK. Another lousy day with the forehand. You?

RM: Not bad. Was at Nike today worked on the driver.

CW: How’d that go?

RM: Not bad. Still hitting those duck hooks. Hey, I ran into to Tiger at Nike. He congratulated me on our pending marriage. Was providing some unsolicited but interesting marrital advice.

CW:…………

RM: Cari….you there?

RM: Hello.

RM: Hello?

a little crazy to hear this AFTER they sent out wedding invitations a scant few days ago.

however, two athletes in their mid 20’s, who travel the world and have a window to make a name for themselves…..not sure marriage is the best move.

at least they made a smart decision….rather than divorce one year later.

Interesting; sad, I guess, although seemed like a silly relationship anyway (in the beginning, at least; how do you really know someone you just met at famous-athlete parties?). Maybe Woz can spend some time practicing now.

Maybe Woz turned into a Bridezilla……stranger things have happened. I remember how on edge I got getting ready for mine…….lots of nerves…….sounds like Rory was the nervous one! Poor guy, I know that took lots of guts to pull the plug. Better now than later…..

You guys are talking as if this is the first time Rory’s called it off. About a year ago he announced he was going to concentrate on his golf so the engagement was over. This subsequently seemed to have been untrue, but he had allowed the announcement to be made public. At least he didn’t plead he had toothache this time (golf followers will know what I’m referring to).

the only way this can work is if you play tennis too and can align significant chunks.

he needs a girl who can join him on tour so you can actually have a marriage.

and caroline needs to realise that unlike the feminist fantasies she’s been conditioned with, you can’t prioritize an extremely absent/alienating career and get the fairy tale too.

you’re gonna have to pick, sweetheart! otherwise don’t expect commitment until you retire, unless you wanna play sugarmamma to a beta with no goals of his own.

Golf is quite a bit different than tennis. While there is a European PGA Tour and mini tours here and there, the most important tournaments are predominantly played in the US. This makes having a home life a lot easier than it is for tennis players. Tennis is all over the globe. Just not easy to align schedules under these circumstances. I think roy is right when he said that Rory wanted a marriage. Even the strongest marriage can’t overcome being apart for months at a time, year after year. I think that they wanted to make it work but just couldn’t find a way. I don’t think that Woz should give up her career anymore than Rory. As with pretty much everything in life, timing is critical.
