According to the AP, Fabio Fognini was hit with a $2,000 fine for making an obscene gesture after a loss yesterday in Shanghai.

From the video, Fognini can be seen extending the middle finger of his left hand. The Italian had just lost his fifth straight match after getting stunned by the 553rd-ranked Wang Chuhan.

For some comparison, this August the NFL fined Johnny Manziel $12,000 for giving the one finger salute on the field.

the DA Says:

Is that all? Blah. Hardly a deterrent to a well off player.

The DA exactly pftt….

RZ Says:

If this was a first time offense, $2k might be an okay fine. But Fogs has acted like this several times this year. Time to up the fine big-time.

RZ Says:

Also, it’s sad that Flavia Pennetta (who behaves impeccably on the court) has not been a good influence on him.
