Late in his just-finished loss to Andy Murray in the fourth round of the Australian Open, Grigor Dimitrov took his frustrations out on his racquet.

Down a set, Dimitrov had climbed back from a break hole to win the second. He lost the third but again held a break lead for much of the fourth, ahead 3-0 and then at 5-2. But Murray fought back to even at 5-5. Then Murray broke again, and after losing the lead and now falling behind, the young 23-year-old Bulgarian exploded his racquet:

Minutes later Murray closed out the four set winning the last five games of the match to reach the Australian Open quarterfinals.

“I’m not going to hide my disappointment. I’m pissed,” Dimitrov told the press.

Retard

madmax Says:

Thrilling Match.

Michael Says:

He lost his patience as well as control after his game suddenly collapsed at a crucial moment. He might be fined heavily for this unacceptable behaviour.

Klaas Says:

He practically gave the fourth set, and thereby the match, away. Very understandable reaction.

Giles Says:

I suppose all these racquet smashers think they are very macho. It’s high time the ATP imposed a penalty for this misdemeanour on court.

Tennis Fan Says:

No he won’t be fined … but he is developing a reputation as a choke … he has the ability to beat Murray but can’t hold his game together at critical moments. I witnessed this last year at the Roger’s Cup first hand against Andersen. Raonic doesn’t buckle like this guy and that’s why he will be the first to win a slam.

jane Says:

well, sometimes people get frustrated. look how andy nailed that return. he just broke a racquet, not that big of deal imo, except that it took only one smash to explode it.

skeezer Says:

He’s lucky he didn’t throw his shoulder out.

SnotNosedKid Says:

That’s why I think Baby Fed is great for the game. Tennis is more than just slams and masters, it’s the pizzazz that matters – the racquet smashes, the tweeners, the shots of the week that you really remember. Your 2014 Acapulco Champion will have plenty of time to bag a slam after Fed, Djoker, Murray & Nadal have retired.

Patson Says:

THAT is how you destroy a racket.

Deserves to be in the coaching manuals.

Matador Says:

So overrated this “young” player.
