Grigor Dimitrov lived up to his “Baby Fed” moniker Tuesday in where else but Roger Federer’s town of Basel. Playing a first round match against Viktor Troicki at the Swiss Indoors, the talented Bulgarian came up with an ultra creative way to hit a drop shot: Behind the back, half volley, drop shot winner!

Commentator Robbie Koenig had the call. “That’s got to be the shot of year! Without a doubt. This is absolutely outrageous,” he said. “Straight to the casino, off you go!”

Dimitrov won the match 63, 62. He plays Juliean Benneteau later today.

the DA Says:

Haha, that was amazing!

Brando Says:

WOW- WTF!

That was just outrageous!

Kid’s got game for sure- just needs to sort the mental side out!

jane Says:

Hey man, nice shot.

alison Says:

WOW fantastic, amazing, never seen a shot quite like that.

Polo Says:

That shot should be named after Grigor. He must be the first to do it.

cORINNE Says:

VERY TIRED OF “OUTRAGEOUS”, “RIDICULOUS”. “AWESOME” AS ADJECTIVES….ESPECIALLY FROM ROBBIE KOENIG. THEY ARE LUCKY SHOTS OR SHOW GOOD REFLEXES, EVEN IMPRESSIVE….NOT “OUTRAGEOUS” ETC. A NEW VOCABULARY IS REQUIRED. AND DON’T EVEN THINK OF “AWESOME”

Rafael Says:

Robbie konnig is SO predictable! however, this shot is just wonderful! good one dimitrov!

hope dimitrov realises his potential like federer did. atleast 30% realisation of such potential will get him 5 GS! he has future no.1 written all over his game! i hope he gets there one day!

Nkbass Says:

I’ve seen that shot being played in Top Spin, but to see it being done for real.. so cool!

Humble Rafa Says:

Some kids have it easy. I run like a rabbit for 42 shots, moonballing and all, before I hit an “outrageous” winner.

skeezer Says:

Lucky stab….but at least he stuck is racket out

Ben Pronin Says:

I love how he bends down to actually watch the ball when he makes contact. Almost makes it look like he did it on purpose. Really amazing. Koenig is great. It’s nice to hear someone so genuine.

Eric Blue Says:

It was a great shot but after the approach shot he should’ve been on top of the net.

MMT Says:

This kid has a nice game, and a lot of talent – but his footwork and court positioning is not where it needs to be.

You often see him slipping and sliding all over the place 10 feet behind the baseline, and it’s because he’s too quick to concede his court positioning and revert to desperate defending – a lot like Djokovic used to do.

He needs to develop the technique to stay on top of the baseline and control the point without having to go through his full stroke production, and that will allow him to move forward more often, and defend less.

But a magnificent shot, nonetheless!

jeanius Says:

Corinne- Our mutual disdain for “awesome” makes us kindred spirits. Unless it’s the grand canyon, or one of the 7 wonders of the world, or a newborn, it aint awesome.

Alok Says:

I wiash I could hit that shot! My coach says he still has a lot more to do to get up in the rankings, but he has potential nonetheless.

max Says:

Great shot indeed,it is in no vain said that his style resembles to Rogers, though there is a doubt he will achieve a part of his success !!
