Does Novak Djokovic Have An Arm Injury?

After a dominant start to the clay season with his Monte Carlo title, Novak Djokovic has looked more human this week in Rome, dropping sets in wins over Nicolas Almagro and yesterday against Tomaz Bellucci. But there may be more to Djokovic’s dip in play this week. He is dealing with an arm issue.

He says it’s no bother and the numbers agree.

Some serving stats:
v Bellucci
1st srv win %: 82%
2nd srv win %: 54%
Times broken: 2

v Almagro
1st srv win %: 78%
2nd srv win %: 57%
Times broken: 0

In Monte Carlo, Djokovic won 74% of his first serves and 58% of second. So this week’s serving stats thus far fall in line. Serve speed data was not available, though.

With the French Open so close now, it might be something to keep an eye on. Djokovic’s match with Kei Nishikori is about to begin.

Brando Says:

Eh?

Not seen mention of this elsewhere, and in the quote he say’s it’s not worrying him either. Also he’s a smart pro, surely if there is an issue he’d withdraw within a minute of it since after all:

What the hell has he got to achieve or prove in Rome?

He’s won it plenty and ultimately it’s only a master series event: i.e. small potato.

Hope he’s well and if there is a issue he makes a smart decision and not a stupid one.

Djokovic is one of the best players in terms of coming from a set down …

Zozza Says:

The French open starts very soon
Nadal is in decline
Wawrinka just thrashing him in second set after very close first set … Djokovic isn’t injured he is just human all players lose tennis matches !

nolepova Says:

His arm seems fine to me…just think sometimes he acts human and can’t win them all in straight sets. These 3 set wins are all against quality players…Almagro was a top 10 player, Bellucci played a tremendous match and after that performance I think people will take him more serious and he just beat Nishikori in 3 sets and Kei is playing some great clay court tennis that could’ve been a final instead of a quarterfinal. People have to remember that Djokovic is human he can’t win everything even though I predict him winning all 4 Slams this year as well as the Cincinnati Masters which is the only one he hasn’t one…I predict 2015 to be better than 2011 for Nole but I’m biased because he is my favorite player of all time I have always been a fan of Nole even before his first Australian Open win in ’08. 2015 is the year of NOLE!!!

SL Says:

The injury, if there is one, is certainly not affecting him. He just had 3 somewhat average days but still won. Losing a set to Nishikori, who played really well in set 2, is no shame.

@ nolepova. I have felt since the season started that this is the year of the Djokovic Slam. If he wins the French, as I think he can, he will be odds on for it. And that will really bring him up there in the GOAT discussion.

Giles Says:

Why does he always do this? The man does not have an arm injury and never has. Pffffft. Probably getting his excuse ready for when, hopefully, fed kicks his butt.
