The US Open has released the Monday schedule and it features World No. 1s Serena Williams and Novak Djokovic. Plus Rafael Nadal, Venus Williams and defending champion and finalist Marin Cilic and Kei Nishikori.

Was afraid to lose to serena again. Spoiled the draw. Why not decide before?

she had a leg injury; apparently she tried everything she could to get ready to play but at the last minute decided not to risk it.

but it is too bad they waited until the schedule was released because now, instead of moving a seeded player there, serena will get a lucky loser in that section.

it reminds me of ferrer waiting until the last minute to pulled out of wimbledon, which ended up opening that section of the draw. instead of isner moving someone else went there, an unseeded british player i think.
