190 Comments for 2015 ATP World Tour Finals Open Thread: Novak Djokovic v Roger Federer

jeez Says:

As long as Federer is atleast serving 2/3 1st

serve(67%) mixing with volleying he could beat

Djokovic fairly comfortably..

But if serve dips + occasional errors,he could find

himself in a very tough situation …

And key for Djokovic is making Federer run

changing directions like what he did with Nadal…

Hope both play with full POTENTIAL

jatin Says:

Comon Fed. Just bring your top game today.

jeez Says:

BP already for Djokovic!!

FedExpress Says:

same start like on tuesday

BP saved and holds

jeez Says:

Saved Deuce

Adv Federer

Why is Fed engaging in baseline rallies ???

1-0

jatin Says:

Some great rallies to start the match. Novak had the BP, but fed did well to hang on.
1-0

FedExpress Says:

hmmmm

when noles serve is clicking it is hard to break him

FedExpress Says:

Bp fed

jeez Says:

BP Federer!!!

jatin Says:

Great return by fed. BREAK point

jeez Says:

BAD miss NETTED!!

DEUCE

jatin Says:

Fed missing

jalep Says:

Think these two are tired of playing each other yet?

FedExpress Says:

same old story. bp wasted. noles moonballing helped

jeez Says:

Federer trying to win Rallies!!!

jatin Says:

Breathtaking defense from roger

FedExpress Says:

shit

jeez Says:

BROKEN

2-1 Djokovic

FedExpress Says:

break nole

fed wont win it. sadly

jatin Says:

Novak breaks.
Fed should not engage in rallies.

Hope he could break back

jalep Says:

jeez, I noticed that! Federer not bothering with tactics. Energy from both is a strange and off, imo.

FedExpress Says:

straight set loss for fed

jatin Says:

That was a good one. Serve and volley

kriket Says:

You think Đoko would allow himself to lose twice in a week to Fed? I don’t think so.
Considering they were bound to play twice in this tournament, that first loss might’ve been a tactical move. Not that Đoko intentionally lost, but simply not tried too hard to win.

jeez Says:

HORRIBLE return game from Djokovic !!

May be 1 break is enough he feels???

3-2 Djokovic

FedExpress Says:

0-30

i say he wont break

jeez Says:

Djokovic still doesn’t look COMFORTABLE

jittery!!!

jeez Says:

0-30

Now

15-30

FedExpress Says:

30-30

fed again missing chances

FedExpress Says:

mug

Daniel Says:

Nice BH DTL, deuce

FedExpress Says:

Bp fed

now see how useless fed will play it

Daniel Says:

Net attack, volley and Djoko misses passing shot, BP for Fed to get back

FedExpress Says:

i could vomit

jeez Says:

PHOO!!

WASTED!!

Deuce

jalep Says:

kricket, I dunno. Doubt Nole would allow himself to win but Fed wasn’t appearing to try too hard, imo. Fed appeared to be doing the opposite of what he knows doesn’t work v Nole – engaging in baseline rallies. That’s why I posted – wonder if they are tired of playing each other ;)

Daniel Says:

As usual, Fed’s BH not holding. Always missing after long exchanges from BH.

FedExpress Says:

BH BH BH BH long

jalep Says:

oops. allow himself to lose, not win.

Daniel Says:

Djoko stop missing, more consistent.

kriket Says:

Yeah, seems when Đoko forces Fed’s BH long enough, Fed’s bound to miss in the end.

FedExpress Says:

fed has become a mental midget

jeez Says:

Where was this Serve & Volley till now ???

4-3 Djokovic

jatin Says:

Trying again fed, break will bound to come for sure.
Its still 4-3

jalep Says:

Alpha male posturing comes to mind.

kriket Says:

Granted, I didn’t watch their first match, but considering that they were bound to meet in the finals as well, I would think that it’s be better to lose the first match than the final.

Daniel Says:

Another 30-30 game on Djoko serve

kriket Says:

FedExpress, Fed always had mental issues in his matchups first against Rafa nowdays against Đoko.
That’s the only thing questioning his goatness, imo.

Daniel Says:

But Djoko’s serve is clicking fine, several aces.

jatin Says:

When was the last time novak outaced fed ?

Daniel Says:

Awesome BH DTL winner to close the game, 5-3 pressure on Fed to hold and force Novak serve the set.

jalep Says:

Nole serve is there when it’s clutch.

FedExpress Says:

every service game from nole is everything but straighforward but fed cant do anything

Daniel Says:

15-30, yellow light

FedExpress Says:

no need for a 2nd set

shake hands and go to vacations

jeez Says:

Must hold here

2 BP SET POINTS !

Daniel Says:

Djoko missing a golden oportunity to close the set.

kriket Says:

and there he goes. 1-0 Đoko

jeez Says:

Not again says Djokovic

6-3 Djokovic

FedExpress Says:

i am switihing off

Daniel Says:

Close the set and will serve first second. Seema he’ll do it in 2. Thought he would win in 3.

1 set to close the best season ever. And How long will he keeps reaching finals? Is he confirmed to play Doha next tear again, if so, 1 more tourney to make a full year with finals in all tourneys played in a 52 weeks spam. That would be a first also

kriket Says:

Nooo FedExpress don’t go away! Who’s gonna mourn Fed’s loss when you’re gone :)

jatin Says:

Tactics isn’t working, break points wasted, novak too good.
Comon fed, change the pattern of play. Do something

Giles Says:

Hey Daniel. Are you sure you’re a fedfan? I am not so sure. What are you playing at?

kriket Says:

Talk about tactics, where’s the SABR? Noone mentions it anymore :)

jatin Says:

That’s the roger federer way of serving. Loved it.
Comon fed
1-1

jeez Says:

SEVERER can only save this match from here !!!

He he…

jeez Says:

4/4 on 2nd serve Djokovic!!

Daniel Says:

Wow, BH DTL on the run winner. Aplause from Djoko

jeez Says:

4/4 on 2nd serve Djokovic!!

2/5 1st

jatin Says:

Exceptional forehand by fed. :)

jatin Says:

Still couldn’t break novak’s defence. So solid in that area so far.

jatin Says:

Positive game for fed.
2-2

jatin Says:

Novak too good

Daniel Says:

Fed trying to attack the net. Misses a volley first point in those days when nothing work

jeez Says:

Should be

15-30 by now !!

jatin Says:

First serves fed.

kriket Says:

Fed’s being more aggressive, trying to dictate the game. Too bad he misses too much.

Daniel Says:

Djoko showing again that when it comes to later rounds he just raise his level. Beating Nadal and Fed back to back to crown his amazing year and leveling HxH versus both is the icing.

jeez Says:

Scoreboard pressure

jeez Says:

SEVERERRRRR…!!!

Daniel Says:

Federer hold with great serving, still alive but at the end of the set the pressure will be all on him from now on. A break and Djoko can serve the match or close later on.

jatin Says:

How long can fed serve this well is the question now.
5-5 in ace departments.

jeez Says:

80% 1st serve from fed this SET

67% Novak

Daniel Says:

Point of the match. Dioko got 2 impossible shots.

Awesome!!!

kriket Says:

Best rally so far, with Fed’s smash.

jeez Says:

RALLYERER ???

jatin Says:

Best rally of the match.. wow wow wow

jeez Says:

GIFTEREER comes NETTING!!

jalep Says:

We didn’t get enough points like that 1st set!

kriket Says:

Đoko holding for the all important 7th game for 4-3.

jatin Says:

Novak is just not missing at all. I mean, how does he do that.

Hope fed can continue to serve well as novak is too good right now

jeez Says:

9/10 2nd SERVE Djokovic but 7/12 1st serve !!

4-3 Djokovic

jalep Says:

This is almost over :/ …and no more ATP tennis.

kriket Says:

I would think now comes the time Đoko puts pressure on Fed’s serve, the business end of the set.

jeez Says:

0-30 !!

Huh oh!!

Daniel Says:

Djoko with only 2 errors this set.

What was that FH cross courr in the run, insane!

kriket Says:

Phenomenal crosscourt fh by Đoko for 0-30

jeez Says:

VIRTUAL MATCH POINTS

0-40

kriket Says:

The pressure is ON

Tom Says:

Wow I!!! What a shot by No1e!! In that last game Roger tries to do sneak and No1e almost blew it past him. Doubt Roger wins this even if he wins this set 7-6. It’s obvious No1e held something back on Tuesday and Roger looks like the 34 year old former star. I do have to say as a No1e fan it’s sad he’s the only one pushing No1e these days. But pretty similar to Roger’s 05-09 prime (minus clay).

Daniel Says:

Djoko zoning now, 0-40. Virtual match point.

jeez Says:

2 saved 1 to go

jeez Says:

DEUCE NOT OVER YET!!

Daniel Says:

3 BP’s saced with excelent serves

kriket Says:

Fed escapes the BPs, but can he hold.
Đoko will press him on every serve from now on.

madmax Says:

Jatin, keep the comments please, I am depending on you!

Really feeling that this match is Fed’s to win, but Novak too good right now.

I wonder, what are Fed’s tactics this match? Can you see a pattern Jatin?

jeez Says:

WOW WHAT A HOLD!!!

jatin Says:

Comonmnnnnnnnnn…. That was an amazing hold by roger. 4-4

Daniel Says:

Wow, 5 straigh points. Crowd fully behind Fed now. Just the way Djoko likes to go on and win to shut them up😜

madmax Says:

I just read all the comments here, seems Fed is playing better this set?

13th consecutive final! Come on Fed! Step it up!

jalep Says:

Tough hold for Fed. Where was this 1st set? Great tennis from both.

jeez Says:

Federer Should make Djokovic Play

jeez Says:

2 ERRORS

jeez Says:

GIFTERER THIS

:-)

madmax Says:

Ahhh, not looking so good, but the Maestro holds for a while longer eh Jatin?

Love his resolve, his fight, his determination. Come on!

jatin Says:

Madmax
I just have one word right now man. Novak is just playing out of his mind right now
5-4

Daniel Says:

Agree Tom, even of Fed senak this set in a breaker, eventuY he’ll lose. Djoko just to good and he knows the weight kf this last match of the season.

He wull give a clear message to the tour, that he ain’t losng anytime soon and will dominate for a while longer still.

At least is entertaining. Now drama for Fed to hold at 4-5. Could be facing MP real soon. Needs the serve more than ever.

jatin Says:

He has to hold again madmax. Need 4/4 first serves.
Novak must be smelling the victory

jeez Says:

54% 1st serve for Djokovic 9/14 1st 11/12 2nd

78% 1st serve Fed 15/18 1st 2/5 2nd

Tom Says:

Daniel, when are the crowds going to learn the more they cheer against No1e the more he zones in and has that “oh yeah!” Look. He easily holds. Sad to see these Roger fans still think he’ll win this. Funny actually..

jeez Says:

RALLY RALLY RALLY !!!!????

madmax Says:

These long rallies?

Daniel Says:

Longest rally, Fed BH slice miss, and this will drain Fed

jalep Says:

Again, in a long rally…only a matter of time (32 shots) and Nole makes it look easy…

jeez Says:

2 MATCH POINTS NOW!!!

Daniel Says:

Me and my mouth kkkk
2 MP Djoko

jeez Says:

PRESSURE PRESSURE !!!

madmax Says:

Okay. Match point.

Proud of Fed.

Great tournament for him.

kriket Says:

Đoko wins by computer decision :)

Daniel Says:

Not end with a DF.

Congrats Novak. GREATEST SEASON EVER!!!

jalep Says:

Bad way to end the match..DF

Wog Boy Says:

What a GYMNAST is this No1e.

kriket Says:

Đoko writes “and now comes resting” on the camers :)

Pauly Says:

Greatest season ever Djokovic
Federer didn’t play his best but well done on great season also

Tom Says:

That was pretty routine. Thanks for everyone building this match up. The message was “now on vacation” LOL on the camera….

jalep Says:

lol, WB.

madmax Says:

Ack Jalep,

Nerves. But have to congratulate Novak and the sheer intensity with which he played, reading all the comments before I came on, seems he was in a different zone today.

Roger, the only man who has pushed him this year. A pity that he won’t end at No. 2, but not to lose sleep over this.

What would you say that Roger didn’t do today Jalep that he did against Novak when he beat him on Tuesday?

Fedexpress, don’t be downhearted. Come on. We have been used to Roger losing before, but his winning streak this year has been incredible.

Congratulate him for this!

Daniel Says:

5 straight tourneys, how many more will he get? Can’t see nobody stopping him in AO in 2 months, than he’ll go for 4 in a row in RG, just to add extra pressure on himself;-)

kriket Says:

Did I just see the tear in Roger’s eye when he say the hawkeye review in the end?

madmax Says:

Wog boy, congratulations to Nole, who is an incredible gymnast. I dont really see what your problem is with this word? It shows flexibility and strength, you say that English is your fourth language? Do you mean fifth? because really, there is no shame in being a gymnast.

Now go away and celebrate.

kriket Says:

saw the hawkeye*

Emily Says:

Commentators just reminded me Andy will end year as #2, sorry Roger, but Novak was just too good

Daniel Says:

I think Djoko is liked by crowd, is just the Fed is more considering his age, veteran and everything else.

But everybody who loves tennis has to appreciate what Djoko is doing, the same Fed did in 2004when he raised the bar, now everybody has to catch up to him

madmax Says:

kriket! Ha ha!

kriket Says:
Did I just see the tear in Roger’s eye when he say the hawkeye review in the end?

November 22nd, 2015 at 2:37 pm

No, our dear Roger, the man who is the only one pushing the world Number 1 this year and beat him earlier this week! seems he is developing cateracts. But I guess it comes to us all eventually, ask Wogboy. :)

Wog Boy Says:

The best GYMNAST in tennis broke so many records this year that it is hard to mention them all, what a GYMNAST!
And now presentation, first time in the history of gymnastic competition that somebody won it four time in a row.

Daniel Says:

Nice the ball kid delivering the trophy, imagine if in a few years he became a tennis great as well and win this tourney one day, Djoko could deliver the trophy back to him?!

elina Says:

Congratulations to nolefam here.

Best. Year. Ever.

jatin Says:

Outrageous level of play by novak. I mean, how good was that. He was not missing a single shot, how could someone do that is beyond me.
Amazing retrieving skills, such great defense, no words. He is a ultimate champion.

Congratulations to novak fans. Enjoy the victory and one of the greatest seasons of all time. More will come in next year as well.

As for fed, i guess after winning so much, there comes a time you lose so much as well. Still, loved the way you played whole tournament, even defeated the undisputed world no. 1 along the way. Hope to see you next year.

Wog Boy Says:

madmax,
No dear lady, you and your man are on the way out, me and my man are here to stay..and he can take his plate and go and shave, or Mirka will shave him for losing another final to Nole.

Travis Bickle Says:

From the post-match press conference:

Journalist:
“Roger, any plans to shave?

Federer:
“Not necessary, I just received a close shave by my barber Novak”

FedExpress Says:

better player won. congratulation nole and his fans

good season fed but missed golden opputunities to make it a memorable one.

it will be a menatl burden from now on. losing so.many big final to the same player.

madmax Says:

Emily, yes. Andy will be No. 2. Deserved I guess?

C’est la Vie for Roger, but so happy he is still around, pushing the best of them to the limit, which even Andy could not do this year in terms of Novak.

Having said that. Don’t blame Andy at all. DC was his aim, and am sure that he will win that. Good luck to him.

Think that as Stan said, recently, when him and Roger played DC a year ago, it’s tough. Playing WTF then a quick turnaround, flights, switch to clay from hard court, mind set, but our boys are tough, right?

Silly scheduling if you ask me when DC is around. Same as Olympics. Wonder how that is going to work next year with Wimbledon, players being super tired, the winner and the semi finalist in July? Olympics starts when? one week after? Flight to Rio? Goodness, jet lag and all that goes with it.

Then the USO. But what is the alternative?

Daniel Says:

Also,he beat Nadal and Fed, relatively easy end the season, he was neve under “real” threat.

Now he is 1 title shy of Fed’s record, which he could tie next year.

Love this song from Coldplay as well, Fix You.

Can’t wait to see what will happen next year and if Djoko will continue his path on greatness.

All this last tourneys since USO he won easier than first part of the season, this is scary thought, because since he is just getting better and better. More aggressive and winning fast, no more long matches.

madmax Says:

Travis Bickle,

That is the first post I have laughed at from you! Thank you for that!

Sense of humour award goes to Roger!

Wog Boy Says:
madmax,
No dear lady, you and your man are on the way out, me and my man are here to stay..and he can take his plate and go and shave, or Mirka will shave him for losing another final to Nole.

November 22nd, 2015 at 2:43 pm

Wog boy, you are a nasty piece of work and from now on, I pay no attention to you.

Roger, on the way out?

Where have you been since time immemorial.

Silly man.

Daniel Says:

Goas for him next season:

1 – Win RG
2 – Win minimum 2 Slams, desirable 3 or all 4;-) Get close to 14 by the end of 2016
3 – Record Masters Title
4 – Tie Roger 6th WTF titless
5 – Finish the year #1 again getting close to 200 weeks as #1
6 – Win Cincinnati
7 – Finish the year with positive HxH versus Fed and Nadal
8 – Win 10 plus titles again to gets closer to 70th titles and ove in all-time list (currently with 59th)

Of all this items, the hardest to do is the one he wants the mots, win RG.

Because HxH versus Fed and Nadal and record Masters titles is pretty much a given now. Than will be keep #1 ranking and win WTF. Cincinnati also seems to elude him. And if he wins less than 2 Slams it will be a shock for me considered everything else, Roger and Nadal late phase of their careers and Murray kind of regressing, even with his best ranking ever.

jatin Says:

If novak can continue to play like this, who could stop him from winning 4 slams next year ?
Roger ?
He would be 35 by then.
Rafa ?
Novak handle him easy these days.
Andy ?
We all know his record against novak in recent times.
Stan ?
Too inconsistent. Novak even handed him a bagel the last time they played.

So its all Novak Djokovic right now.

Wog Boy Says:

“What would you say that Roger didn’t do today Jalep that he did against Novak when he beat him on Tuesday?”

You people didn’t get it that the other day Nole was at his 80%, today was real Nole.

This is for Serbian speaking fans:

“Отресе га Ноле к’о Циганче слину.”

Don’t worry, it is not swear word, just saying.

Travis Bickle Says:

@madmax

Glad you liked my post!
However, your “sense of humour” award is not going to Roger, unfortunately. The press conference question I quoted is a fake one, so I guess your award goest to…. me?

RZ Says:

Congrats to Nole and his fans. Absolutely amazing season.

kriket Says:

IMO, Roger deserves to be the 2nd ATP rank, he’s played more finals, beat the No1 more times etc. And he’s more consistent than Murray, at least in my mind. I don’t know the exact stats, but Fed deserved to be ranked higher than Murray.

kriket Says:

jatin, next year is too hard from a Grand Slam POV, since they have the Olympics to play as well.

So, it would be a real miracle for anyone to win a Grans Slam in an Olympic year.

Daniel Says:

Right now, Novak seems the most complete player I have ever seen, Roger may have the wow factor but there is just no weakness in Djoko’s game and he may not have all variety Fed has with the quality Fed has, but Djoko can do everything on court and no one plays baseline better than him from both wings. Plus his defense, passing shots, BH and return of serve is the best of all current players. Some the best all time. Heis the ultimate tennis player, he emulate the best of Fed and Nadal and compile it in one player and that is him.

kriket Says:

Wog Boy I’ve never heard of that expression, and I’ve been living in Serbia for the last 41 years.
It’s also really nasty.

kriket Says:

Daniel, Đoko said that for him, one of the primary targets is the Olympic Gold medal, at least as important as, say RG. That’s what he says.

Wog Boy Says:

kriket,
It is old saying, from my time in Serbia, I am bit older, ask madmax, she knows how old I am, and it is not nasty, just a fact, I grew up with them and had a lot of friends of their backround, good boxers, musicians and something else..

Wog Boy Says:

Daniel,
You missed the most important tournament for Nole next year, Olympic Games.

Chrisford1 Says:

There will be a lot of discussions about all aspects of Djokovic’s monster year, but for this tournament:

1. If Roger had won, I think he would have owned the record for championships past Djokovic’s time, as it would have been 7-4 to Roger. Now it is 6-5 and Nole has realistic odds of equalling or exceeding Roger’s mark.
2. Too much emphasis on “Undefeated winner!!” for prize money. Djokovics round robin loss to Fed cuts his prize money in half. Too steep a penalty, IMO.
3. This tournament he finally tied Rafa 23-23. Rafa has always had a winning H2H record until this past week since the two first played back in 2006.
4. This tournament also ends with Nole tied 22-22 with Fed in H2H. This, along with the Rafa tie, is tennis’s version of the end of season cliffhanger. (BTW, THIS year marks the point at which Nole-Fed became 2nd the most frequent encountered H2H between players in the Open era, perhaps the highest in quality.)
5. And Nole set the record with 4 straight WTF wins.
6. Djokovic is now in the company of Lendl and Sampras, with 5 titles. Fed as mentioned has 6, and it looks quite possible Djokovic will at least tie Roger.

(Props to Fed for showing the way to be a winning “senior statesman” of the game. Props to Andy for playing a credible tournament rather than just bailing with a quasi-bogus injury to get more prep in for Davis. Props to Rafa for taking this year on the chin and still showing the gracious, quality character he is known for. Never angry, never capitulating to negativity. Props to David Ferrer and Berdych for all the WTFS They have made over the years as two of the best players in the world. Too much, we ignore all but the 3-4 “Superstars”. But all those years of David and Tomas battling to be Top 10 players with careers to be proud of – deserves attaboys from everyone.

jalep Says:

Hi Madmax, didn’t realize you had posted to me until now, sorry.

As I posted about…thought the energy between Nole and Fed was quite interesting at the start and especially through the 1st few games, 1st set.

Both of them you might say were uncommitted or acting that way – a bit of you go first, no you, with some attitude. Federer stubbornly got into rallies from behind the baseline and reminded me of Fogna with the body language.

Then, Nole simply took the cue and stepped on the gas. 2nd set Fed played more aggressively but Nole simply matched and passed Fed’s attempts. Nole makes tennis look easy, imo, madmax. His movement is sublime. He’s si very efficient too. Nole’s confidence reminds me of prime Fed. I don’t worry who will win. Think Nole did take his foot off the gas a little 2nd set of their RR match. But that would make sense – Federer got a win. Nole the trophy. I’m satisfied.

Cheers Madmax!

Bob Lewis Says:

Novak plays like a real man. Fed is a non-confident, mental midget. New nickname, Mr. R-Up. That’s what he would have been had he faced real comp like Novak. Those R-Up plates, rename them to Roger plates. Engrave his face on them. :)

Everyone looks so mediocre,
That’s what happens when they play the Djoker!
He will always be reviled
for the wins over Fed he has compiled.
What a historic winning spree
Discipline, hard work, and gluten free.
His will of steel you will never bend
So his winning ways will never end.
Don’t like the poetry that’s on the screen?
Just wait until he gets 18!
If you want to win, go play poker
In tennis you’ll never, ever beat the Djoker!

Daniel Says:

kriket,

You are right kriket, completly forgot about Olympics and I live in Rio kkkk

Have to add that to the list, get Olymoic gold, but even so it must be lower than RG.

Winning RG changes his status and proves what we already now that he is one of the most complete player to have ever play the game. Olympics is a last 10-15 years thing. And of course they as sport knows the value of it. But RG to Djokois the ultimate tennis goal. And as he cracked everything else, to me is just a matter of time. But of course a lot of things can happen and even with tennis age shifting last years he will be 29 next RG, he knows his windown is decreasing by the year.

Wog Boy Says:

Talking about h2h, I read comments after Roger beat Nole few days ago about Roger being in Nole’s head, the most telling thing who is in whose head and who is mentally stronger is their finals head to head, they played 18 finals and had one final WO, Nole won 12 of them with Roger winning only six. Their very first final Nole won in Montreal, next few they were going one each until Nole took lead at 5:4 and never looked back. Roger did try to enter Nole’s head from the very beginning but it looks like it just didn’t work, same with Rafa. Conclusion: both, Nole and Rafa are in his head, Rafa more than Nole though.

Wog Boy Says:

^^ and Becker is keeping his h2h with Edberg intact, good man Boris.

jane Says:

congrats to novak; capped off a brilliant season. hugs nole fans.

commies fed fans.

that cinched #2 for murray right? and what’s happening with DC, do we know? i heard something weird on my streaming about it being delayed to february.

Daniel Says:

Murray #2 for the year and assure for AO as Fed defensa Brsibane 250 pts mid January.

Don’t know about DC Jane, but things are tense in Belgium, Subway close for 2 days in Bruxels and they are saying for everybody to avoid sports venues.

J-Kath Says:

If GB won the Davis Cup (and Andy only one match) he would still be No. 2 over Roger even if Roger won. However, Nole’s win gives him some slack, especially as Davis Cup may not take place.

Congrats to Nole…I wanted Nole to win but wanted a 3-setter (being selfish) ….ah well, Nole won and he was my favourite. Congrats to both players and their fans.

Margot Says:

Many congratulations to Nole. What a year!
But that was a disappointing match. Fed just can’t volley Nolly can he, unless he serves a lot better than he did today.
The whole WTF has been disappointing in fact. It promises so much and delivers so little. We had quite a few competitive sets but only three 3 setters, interesting competitive matches, where you didn’t know who’d win till the last ball. My best two: Rog v Kei and Rafa v Ferrer.
Apparently the doubles have been much better and much more competitive but they weren’t broadcast on the Beeb so I didn’t see them.

Tennis Vagabond Says:

Too good from Novak. An all-time great performance to cap, maybe, the all time greatest season.

Giles Says:

Far too much gloating from the filth that lives down under. Stay down under and don’t resurface. You will be doing us all a favour.

Wog Boy Says:

Thanks all for contats, that was the way to finish best year in open era, by quite a margin.
What is going on TX this morning (local time), few days ago, after Roger beat Nole, it was buzzing like in the bees nests, now you can hear the silence, like most posters are in mourning?

J-Kath Says:

Margot – Agree with U re. two best matches. However, enjoyed Nole v Fed. match…revealed quite a lot.

Being selfish on Andy’s behalf, glad Roger lost – means Andy No. 2 for Aussie — hasten to add Andy would only have needed one match at DC to hold on to the No. 2 spot irrespective of Roger’s result. Especially crucial now however, if, as is rumoured, the DC will be postponed to February???!!!

Guys, let Federer sit on any chair he chooses – however, the “throne” is occupied. He ain’t be sitting on that one anymore…

Wog Boy Says:

Giles,
You sound like you have something stuck in your back side, ask your idol to pull it out if it hurts too much.

Gypsy Gal Says:

Sorry its late, ive been working and just got home, didnt see the match, and only just seen the result, anyway big congrats to the Nole fan base the nice ones,Jalep,Jane,Mat4,Courbon,Wogboy etc etc, what a player and what a year the guys had very well deserved, sorry to the Federer fan base Madmax,Skeezer and especially Jatin,Rishi,Squirrel,no disgrace Roger had a great week, but just came up short to a guy thats been the best player this year….

Wog Boy Says:

GG,
Thanks and I liked “Police Academy” too, Mahoney was my favorite.

Gypsy Gal Says:

Wogboy yeah Steve Guttenberg was quite handsome in his younger years, the ones that made me laugh were the small black lady with the squeaky voice, the guy that made those noises to fool everybody, and the guy with that strange sounding voice ha ha loved it….

Chrisford1 Says:

Margot, perhaps the year end championships do not find the players at their peaks after a long time of tennis starting in Canada, going through Asia, and hitting two big Euro events, they are all tired by now, but the WTF is a smashing financial and promotion of tennis success story. And both Roger and Nole had their moments of brilliance in the Final.
They are all at the same point in time in the tennis cycle, on the same playing field. All wanting a couple months break from competition after the WTF, even if a good part of that time is their toughest and most meaningful training block. Typically, Nole, Rafa, and David Ferrer play the most matches in a year – but those 3 are stamina stalwarts

James Says:

Becker beating Edberg was different – they were roughly the same age. Fed is 6 years older than Djoke – its a pity that a 34 year old player is clearly the No. 2 player of the year, and still there is only one player who can really stop him outside of clay consistently in big matches.

2016 likely belongs to Djoke. Of course, after that who knows. He will slow down too, nobody can beat age.

Now lets see how the H2H freaks take Djoke having a leading H2H against Nadal next year. Since Nadal is only one year older to Djoke, can’t blame it on age either. And they might play each other many times more. Djoke is what 9-1 on Nadal since the 2013 USO – fair to say Nadal is his pigeon now?

Top 10 is now 30+ in age. Strange!
