Andy Murray The Hero As Great Britain Wins The Davis Cup For First Time Since 1936

Andy Murray and Great Britain won the Davis Cup for the first time since 1936 after Murray beat Belgium’s David Goffin 6-3, 7-5, 6-3 in the first Sunday singles match to clinch the tie in Ghent, Belgium.

It was Britain’s 10th team title in the history of the Davis Cup.

“I just can’t believe we did it,” said Murray. “I play some of my best tennis when I’m playing for my country.”

The world No. 2 won his singles on Day 1, then put Britain in the driver’s seat by winning the Saturday doubles with brother Jamie.

Murray went 11-0 in Davis Cup singles in 2015, joining John McEnroe and Mats Wilander as players to have an 8-0 season or better in Davis Cup. Brit Kyle Edmund made his Davis Cup debut for Britain on Friday, falling to Goffin.

“It’s obviously an amazing feeling. I imagine it will take a few days before it really sinks in. But I probably haven’t been as emotional as that after a match that I’ve won. I’ve been pretty upset having lost matches before, but I’d say that’s probably the most emotional I’ve been after a win.

“It’s incredible that we managed to win this competition. I didn’t know that would ever be possible. It’s great.”

Added captain Leon Smith, “It has to be one of the best [British sporting] achievements of all time. It’s incredible for all of us to watch how he’s [Murray] managed to win that many rubbers, that many wins, especially when you look back at the tie in France and also the Australia match, obviously a lot of fatigue, he managed to find a way through. It was absolutely incredible.”

Goffin was playing his third match in three days after being stretched to five sets on Day 1 in a win over Edmund, and losing the Saturday doubles 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.

“A lot of disappointment, but no regrets,” Goffin said. “They deserved the trophy, they were very solid this weekend. Andy is a great champion and he’s a hero for his country.”

111 Comments for Andy Murray The Hero As Great Britain Wins The Davis Cup For First Time Since 1936

Giles Says:

https://twitter.com/djokernole/status/670998640341598209
So why does he have to mention his win in 2010?

courbon Says:

Congratulations to all UK fans on winning Davis Cup

courbon Says:

And why not Giles??? You are ‘really stupid twat.Go and shout some Vamos around the room…
You become a joke .You are more Novak hater then Nadal fan these days…No tennis comments, not observation and decent comments from you, just moronic anti Novak comments 24/7. This is tread about GB winning-even here you had to bring Novak bashing…

Gypsy Gal Says:

YIPEE I am over the moon for Murray and team GB,and hope this acts as a springboard for next year ;)….

Wog Boy Says:

Big congrats to UK supporters and Andy’s faitful, at the and of the day it was Murray family against rest of the world. I think it is about time to rename that hill at Wimbledon to “Murray’s hill”.

Travis Bickle Says:

Congrats to GB, to Murrays and to all of their fans here!
Great achievement!

And the very first comment for this post is not about the DC win but it is about poor giles continuing to be obsessed with Djoker !?!
Looks like he is on Djoker twitter/facebook/instagram, etc… 24 hours a day. Enjoy it giles! And let us know what Djoker tweets more often – keep us up to date on his daily life :-)

J-Kath Says:

Taa WogBoy

Agree – don’t think Tim would mind it being called “Murray Mount” – gives all the “don’t knows” a choice.

Chrisford1 Says:

Nice, enthusiastic words of congrats from Nole. Of course Giles sees only an opportunity to troll in responding to the tweet.
What does need to be said is Andy and Nole get along well, and Nole has told Andy that winning Davis Cup and doing it with countrymates was one of the best experiences of his life and how he hoped it happened for Andy as well.
The two probably discussed as well how winning boosted Noles confidence and playing level, setting up his 2011 season.
Nole was rooting for Andy and GBR. He said so early, and that Britain had to be the favorite.

Anyhooo, this isn’t about Nole and his congrats. Its about Andy achieving the Trifecta. First Wimbledon and Davis Cup for Britain in nearly 80 years. And winning gold for his country as they hosted the 2012 Olympics.
Best British player, ever..
And this may be the confidence booster and impetus for Andy to raise his game and mental strength a notch and win more often.

Wog Boy Says:

TB,

They are closet fans, Nole’s, they are yet to come out of the closet.

J-Kath Says:

Love Leon Smith…..nicest guy on the planet?

Chrisford1 Says:

Wog -I think it is about time to rename that hill at Wimbledon to “Murray’s hill”.

Naah, Britain loves the athlete that gives it a good go, but comes up just short. It will always be Henman Hill. Andy gets the statue next to Fred Perry when his career is over. Listing all his feats – and there may be more on the pedestal than than the Andy Murray Trifecta. (Olympics/spearhead Davis Cup to victory/1st BRIT man to get Wimbledon in nearly 80 years).

A statue of Andy holding a tennis racquet in an open mouthed roar. His left either clutching his stomach or a Union Jack..

jane Says:

along with courbon, taxi driver, cf1, and wog boy, i’ll write it here in this thread too: congrats to andy, the whole GB team, and andy’s fans here, particularly margot, the DA and colin, who are andy’s “tried and true” longterm t-x fans. enjoy the win yous! :)

just a note to share for nole and andy fans, since it’s mainly us on this thread so far anyhow… the end of 2015 marks the first time andy and nole will finish the season at the top, in #1 and 2 ranks… (i think it’s the first time since 2002 that there is no fedal in 1 or 2).

courbon Says:

Knowing British humour, they probably put statue of Andy cutting his hair…(-:

Wog Boy Says:

If they are to put his statue, they have the find room for his box too, and his face expression with a word that starts with “f” caming out of his mouth towards his box..

J-Kath Says:

It’s always a bit embarrassing for me when kind people congratulate player’s fans – because all we do is stick up for them and are their hardest critics. But I believe I am the only Scot that I know who currently comments on Tennis X ….thanks, taa, and keep it coming. PS: There is also a very strong Welsh fan without whom…….and a couple of others.

The other thread suggests he will be offered a knighthood for this success….my sense of Andy is he’ll say thanks but no thanks….this was a “team” effort.

SG1 Says:

Congratz to Andy and the UK! Sweet win.

Travis Bickle Says:

On Andu accepting knighthood… He will almost certainly be offered, but I am not sure what he will do.

He may go McCartney way and say yes or Bowie way and decline it. I’d like to think he has more Bowie than Macca in him and he would decline it, but wouldn’t be surprised if he accepted it. I’d be a bit disappointed since I do want him to remain himself and tell the Queen “no thanks, give it to those who really crave it”…

J-Kath Says:

TB – I seem to remember this was muted earlier and Andy’s reply was something like “Not now….I haven’t done enuf…Yet.” The understanding was …OK fine if you feel like it later, but I haven’t finished my career yet….and if it is worthy.???

Sportman of the Year award UK? Well why not….at least be named as a contender? Wouldn’t hurt the team image which he strongly promotes?

BBB Says:

Loved the sportsmanship from Andy when he was tackled by his teammates and jumped up to run over and congratulate Goffin et al.

He’s grumpy, but I think he’s a class act.

RZ Says:

@J-Kath, since you mention Leon Smith, thought you’d appreciate this article on Judy Murray’s “third son.” http://espn.go.com/tennis/story/_/id/14228326/davis-cup-final-judy-murray-proud-third-son-leon-smith-belgium-vs-great-britain

RZ Says:

@Courbon and Wog Boy, a true Tennis-X statue of Andy Murray would somehow combine him cutting his hair, sitting in the bath tub, and wearing the ugly Christmas sweater. It would be a true work of art! :-)

danica Says:

Hearty CONGRATS to the TEAM GB. It is not just Andy, it is not just the Murrays, it is the whole team that won it and deserved it! Great job guys!
Many congrats to all the GB team and Andy’s fans here ;).

jane Says:

ha ha, that christmas sweater RZ. it might also involve driving a boat and/or running on the beach with seagulls? ;)

danica Says:

Playing video games with himself as one of the characters? :)
Gotta love Andy ;)

J-Kath Says:

Thanks Much RZ….Leon deserves Judy’s kind remarks.

Danica You might like a wee glance at:

http://www.eurosport.co-uk/tennis/britain-reach-summit-on-Murray‘s-broad-shoulders

Wogboy – it also mentions Nole’s DCs which we discussed earlier.

danica Says:

J-Kath, I glanced ;) and I agree but still, there were other Brits who had great wins (like against the US) that really are deserving of glory just as well.

Andy is a great champion and quite honestly, no one he faced in that competition was even close to him quality wise. He was instrumental for the win. No disagreement there. But I still think that the team spirit and the efforts of all brought that title to fruition.

Well deserved!

J-Kath Says:

Oh yes Danica

No problem. What is really great is the obvious team spirit and the respect they all have for each other. Andy is a “family & friends” believer and he obviously loves being with the team….did you see how he and James hugged.

PS: Kim looked beautiful.

Giles Says:

https://twitter.com/yolitatennis/status/671028984386183168
Yolita nailed it albeit in a round about jocular fashion.
Reference my first post on this thread for which I was taken to task. My reaction to these critics? I’ll save it for another say.

RZ Says:

@Danica – that is an important point. Team GB wouldn’t have had the opportunity to get to the final if it hadn’t been for James Ward winning a match against the U.S. both this year and last year. And Jamie Murray was key in his doubles matches. I mentioned this on another thread, but there was an important match against Russia in 2013 that GB won thanks to 5-set victories by James Ward again and also Dan Evans. Some of the articles I read yesterday mentioned the first tie that Leon Smith captained against Turkey, and how Jamie Baker (now retired) was a key player in winning that tie.

It took Andy Murray (or arguably the Murray brothers) to win the Davis Cup for GB, but it took all of those players to get and keep GB in the world group so that the opportunity to win would be there.

Gypsy Gal Says:

Meant to add major congrats to the tennis-x spice girls Margot=Posh Spice and J-Kath=Ginger Spice, but im a Murray fan and also a Spice Girl,so Gypsy Gal=Scarey Spice lol….

courbon Says:

Giles-This is tread about British DC win-not Novak bashing tread-give it a rest…go and shout some Vamos around the room.Maybe you feel better…

courbon Says:

RZ- Spot on-I love your version of Andys statue

J-Kath- You are so right-I always find it weird congatulating to fans when somebody wins, but I followed the trend and I do the same…but from now on I will not congratulate to you! You been sipping Earl Grey tea and watching tennis while poor Ginger Boy had to live sweet and blood out there…

Gypsy- Which one is Baby Spice-I forgot?

elina Says:

skeezer is Baby Spice.

Gypsy Gal Says:

Courbon hi,Okiegal is Baby Spice,Jaleps Sporty Spice ;)….

elina Says:

Can I be Old Spice?

Ben Pronin Says:

Epic win for Murray and GB.

Pretty cool that in the last 6 years, the top 7 players in the world atm all won a DC title. That’s probably a first in the Open Era. For all the flack DC gets, it’s actually gotten a lot more popular among the top guys in the last decade or so and this proves it.

Gypsy Gal Says:

Courbon for you,VAMOS,VAMOS,VAMOS,VAMOS,VAMOS VAMOS,while i was doing the washing up,and cooking hubbys tea….

courbon Says:

elina, don’t mock Old spice!-still favorite eau’de colon of my dad ( ok, he is 85 yeras old now…)
Well, we can invent nw spice girls-so you can choose between:
Tennis Spice, Dopy Spice, Crazy Spice,Kinky Spice,
Hippy Spice, etc…. you chose name and we will organize proper- offical Spice coronation ( Gypsy is Secretary-send info and formular to her )

Gypsy Gal Says:

^Multi tasking^….

Gypsy Gal Says:

Courbon all those names fit my persona should also include Headcase Spice, and Should be sectioned Spice….

courbon Says:

Gypsy, as Jagger would say:”Baby, you are playing with fire…”

courbon Says:

Kinky Spice????

skeezer Says:

baby spice here.
That last point by Murray was money. Well deserved and hard fought. Confrats GB.

wilfried Says:

Congratulations to all UK fans here (Margot, Colin, Purcell, J-Kath, Gypsy gal, RZ, Chris, Colin, CDP and all the other UK-fans on this blog that I might forget to mention) on winning Davis Cup
Your team was too solid for the belgian team as I expected. Even Kyle Edmund played some inspiring tennis in his rubber against David Goffin. This youngster seems to have a bright future ahead.
I loved Andy Murray’s promptly running to the belgian team and embracing a devastated Goffin. Very nice gesture from him, from the heart it seemed.
Hope Andy and David will both have a great season next year.

Margot Says:

Well done team GB and especially the magnificent, magical, modest Andy Murray.
Am away, didn’t see one match but from the pics Andy looked so emotional, lovely man.
Thanks for all the good wishes folks and raising a glass to all my fellow Andy fans, through thick and thin!

RZ Says:

@Wilfried – thanks!
@Margot – does this mean that you have to stop watching Andy’s matches too? :-)

RZ Says:

Another nice article on Captain Leon and the road to Team GB’s win.
http://www.bbc.com/sport/tennis/34957859

Gypsy Gal Says:

Thankyou Wilfred, like Margot ive been away and havent seen any tennis, will catch up on my recordings when i have some spare time ;)….

BBB Says:

Giles, thanks for pointing me to Yolita, who said: “I was having a laugh @ the haters who’ll find fault in everything Novak does.Hilarious”

Wog Boy Says:

Here we go again, Nole’s closet fan(s) are around the clock on Nole’s twitter/facebook/instagram… that’s the way to do it in order to becam better person, VAMOS closet Nole fans.

Wog Boy Says:

it is ” become” and not “becam”

Giles Says:

^^^ Your English is getting worse by the minute, not to mention your spelling.

Yolita Says:

@Gilles, at 7.10 am
No, my dear Gilles, I did not “nail it” in a jocular form.
There is this thing in adult talk called ‘irony’. It takes different forms.
The one I chose was to exaggerate slightly what a bunch of haters were tweeting. I added the smilies because it’s Twitter: I had to advertise the fact that I was joking, that I didn’t mean that. I thought that would be enough… Obviously not. Next time I will add: “THIS IS IRONIC. I DON’T REALLY MEAN IT” (No, I will not add that. That was ironic.) :)
I find it really hilarious that some people chose to criticise Novak for tweeting his congratulations tovAndy. The desperation….They are obviously dying to find something to criticise….and they will find it. :D
I don’t see why they have to flaunt their bitterness… Personally, I would keep my bitterness to myself…But that’s just me.

Chrisford1 Says:

For all the fans that sneer at Davis Cup and any other event save the Slam events as inconsequential, the players appear to think otherwise. Every major male player with the exception 2 years ago of Federer, Connors, Wawrinka, and Andy Murray have had Davis Cup victory or at least made it to the final.
Now with 2 years time passing, FED, Stan, Andy have all made the list.
It seems a big thing on any players bucket list of big things they would like to get in their career, and for many, a big thing just to finally be playing on a team and playing directly for their nation.
Congrats again to Andy and his fans. Not to diss the other players and Andy couldn’t have done it alone, but have no doubt, this was on Andy Murray’s shoulders. The pressure was immense. And he delivered!
Giles helpfully alerted us all to Novak Djokovic’s heartfelt “well done!” Tweet to Andy and Team GBR. I hope other players send out “attaboys” as well.

Yolita Says:

Now, to serious matters.

Congratulations to Andy and the whole GB team on the Davis Cup win. Andy looked so pumped and happy! It was a joy to watch.
The tie itself was great fun. I don’t remember seeing Goffin play this well for a long, long time. He played his best, which is not nearly as good as Andy.
I just hope the British press don’t start adding pressure to him asking him to have in 2016 the kind of season Novak had in 2011.
Andy has given so much to British tenis. Let him play without pressure for once.

Wog Boy Says:

Actually Yolita, I was laughing loud this morning on your tweet and how one can be stupid to believe that you bagged Nole, and to post it triumphantly here saying, “you see, Yolita rubbished Nole”:) I prefer when my haters has higher IQ, because that elevates me too, but this particular hate is samwher in 60s, meaning he can be thought just basic thing like “sit”, “stay”, to be home trained and that’s about it, Nole’s Freanch puddles are smarter than shim.

Giles Says:

If one converses in Serbian 24/7 it affects one’s English.

Giles Says:

” heartfelt” “well done!” Tweet …… “. Still FOS!

Okiegal Says:

@Wog Boy 3:59…..You said a few days ago that English was a third language for you. I’m not understanding your above post?? Would you explain it to me in layman’s terms so an older person like me could understand……It’s not my intention to be difficult but I don’t get it?? Maybe Yolita could help me out if you don’t want to. I read it again, just now…..are you saying Yolita is stupid….and are you referring to your personal haters or Nole’s haters or the dogs??? Sit, stay???

J-Kath Says:

Oh gosh so good to hear so many positive comments: re Andy: GG, Courbon, RZ, Wilfred, ChrisFord1, Yolita, Danica, Elina,BBB,Ben, TB, Giles Skeezer…..and from far away, Margot – (Kim was so beautiful – she was jumping up and down with delight) – ….I felt a bit sorri for the Belgian players – a friend watching with me said “Thought their Captain was a bit over-top- almost bullying them – whereas Leon was superb”.

Take care All.

ROFL.

RZ Says:

Here’s the Tweet that J-Kath was trying to post. (Thanks for letting us know about it!)

https://twitter.com/maggiemay_hem/status/671417277611450368

Wog Boy Says:

Okie,
I am pretty sure you understood my post, but even if you didn’t it doesn’t matter unless you are giles. What matters is that person that post was for understood it perfectly well, as you can see by the posts following mine.
I can tell you something else though, English is my third language technically speaking, I can speak, read, write three languages, (not perfectly good as per my posts) my paternal language wasn’t Serbian, my grandparents that I spent summer holidays (and some winter too) with them never spoke Serbian but the language of one neighboring country of former Yugoslavia, knowing that Americans are usually bad with geography you can have some of the old maps and check the countries surrounding former Yugoslavia and have wild guess. My father was born in Serbia and Serbia was good to him and he was loyal to Serbia and that is how he raised us. He wasn’t Serb nor he pretended to be and I am, as I like to say to my fellow Serbians, Serbian by choise not by birth.
Just to finish, there is no need for me and you to engage in any discussion unless you are giles, besides this is Andy’s thread so you can wait for Nole’s thread and than we can talk again, let Andy’s and British fans celebrate their great win without us getting engaged in dog fight, thanks.

Wog Boy Says:

“by choice” and not “by choise”…you se I told you, English is my third language..

Okiegal Says:

That’s OK, I thought you knew me better than that…I truly didn’t understand, but that’s OK, none of my business anyway, so I’ll butt out…..don’t know where you are….time wise, but you have a good, morning, evening or afternoon, whatever it may be.

bojana anel Says:

Wog Boy,
We have Englsh as second or third laguage, and we make mistakes, who wants they understand well. For haters who cares.
Congratulation to Andy and GB.

Chrisford1 Says:

Earlier, someone asked about Ferrer’s wedding and his bride.

http://estaticos03.tiramillas.net/imagenes/2015/11/29/deporte/1448835079_extras_ladillos_1_0.jpg

Her name is Marta Tornel. Tall. Very nice looking as you can see. Has a degree in optometry and works in her family’s eyeglass biz when not accompanying Ferrer on Tour.

Okiegal Says:

Way to go Andy and company and fans, especially Margot and J-Kath and GG…..good to see you back home, CHICK….you’ve been missed. Happy for the UK.
I know everyone in your country is thrilled! I bet the Davis Cup atmosphere is fun. Always seems like the home crowd really gets into it. I haven’t watched it on you tube yet…Spain crowd gets into it….not sure about the English crowd. Will see if I can find a video.

Okiegal Says:

@Wog Boy….
I had not read all the comments. Giles got his or hers in above mine and I didn’t see it. I read the tweets just now, and it all fell into place. I apologize for questioning you. I fell behind on reading the thread….. Kindle needing charging and I did miss some stuff…the tweet confused me. I don’t know when some of the posted are being facetious or serious. I guess I’m out in left field with Giles……we don’t know irony. Lol

@Skeezer, how dare you take the Baby Spice billing from me. Courbon gave me that name to me a year ago and you can’t have it!! :)

@Courbon…..Okieguy could be Old Spice too! He used it for years, but he wasn’t 81. If he’d lived to be 81 he would have just been Older Spice! Oh, how I miss him…..

Okiegal Says:

^^^ Should read some of the posters, not posted…

Wog Boy Says:

Really no need for apologizing, we didn’t exchange any unpleasantry, just misunderstanding.

Okiegal Says:

@Wog Boy…..Okey Dokey….no more apologies….I forgot some posters don’t care for apologies, I just never can remember who they are. If you had rather chat with Giles, I totally understand. I don’t want to engage in a dog fight either….I’m a lover not a fighter, and don’t care for dogs at all…..that is probably the only fault I have. LOL

Okiegal Says:

@Courbon I need to correct my post at 12:11. It wasn’t the Old Spice Cologne but Old Spice deodorant hubby used…thank goodness for that! a I also read 81 instead of 85 for your
dad’s age.

Gypsy Gal Says:

Hi Okie who missed me cant think of many that would?, anyway my blogging will be less at times,as ive alot going on in the real world ATM,and ive also decided to opt out of getting into too many arguments, cant be bothered anymore ;)….

Gypsy Gal Says:

Tennis-x can we have a thread about David Ferrer getting married, like we did when Roger,Novak and Andy got married which was discussed ad nauseum, nice pictures Chris Ford 1 BTW….

J-Kath Says:

RZ – You are a star. Taa for the link.

Chrisford 1 – Thank you for the David Ferrer links I was feeling sad that he wasn’t being noticed – suppose a lot going on at the time.

Okiegal – Knew you’d show up – Good to hear from you again. Andy’s new popularity evidently waning
again as today he complains about the UK Tennis bosses not doing anything to help young Brits.

Giles Says:

^^ RZ has already posted the above tweet

Okiegal Says:

@Gypsy Gal….Sure you have been missed. Glad you are gonna be here some of the time. I know what you mean by arguments. I have come to the conclusion that some people on this forum are just looking for a fight…..sigh

Hi J-Kath I have been reading the threads but not posting much. So happy for GB….after all Andy is my fav after you know who.

J-Kath Says:

Okiegal

…”after you know who”….indeedy, yes, a certain handsome Spaniard…..he’s playing somewhere soon – can’t remember where….but you’ll know, I’m sure.

PS: Hope Thanksgiving was good for you.

Gypsy Gal Says:

Yeah hope you all enjoyed your thanksgiving whomever on this forum celebrates it,(we dont have it here in GB),especially Okiegal who after a tough year still posts with such a dry sense of humour ;)….

the DA Says:

@Jane – Thanks for the congrats. I haven’t got a vested interest in the nation thing but I’m ecstatic for Andy on a personal level. It’s moments from this weekend that make me aware that we could cherish them because there are only a few years left.

As we’ve seen in the not too distant past, occasions like the Davis Cup can be galvanizing (or detrimental – hello PHM). I hope it’s the case for AM. Also hope that Rafa is back to his best. 2016 would only be a more fascinating place for it.

Gypsy Gal Says:

The DA Murrays my second favorite so im delighted team GB have won the DC,not only for him and the team but for all his fans aswell, also thanks for the kind words regarding a certain Spaniard which is refreshing,as some wont even give him the time of day anymore never mind wishing him well….

Okiegal Says:

J-Kath….I tried to have a happy thanksgiving, but to no avail. I got invited to several homes but selected to stay home alone, I was too weepy to be around anyone. I was miserable and didn’t want to make everyone else uncomfortable. Late in the evening my son picked me up and we drove to the farm. We have a cabin there. It’s deer hunting season at this time of year. Byron and Derek always hunted on thanksgiving day and I would cook at home and take the meal to them. That was the tradition for many years, even before we had the cabin. I’ve cried buckets and I now understand why the “firsts” of holidays are tough. I don’t mind telling you that I did not do well. But I’m sure through the passing of time it will get better and I’ll stop whining about it. Thanks for asking and caring. You are a very kind person, I wish I could meet you in the flesh, Gypsy Gal too! Yes, what’s his name, uh, the Spaniard, I’m ready to see him play along with the others. I hope everyone can have a great 2016 with no injuries! I’m thrilled about GB winning the Davis Cup. How exciting for the country and fans. Andy was so very happy. He’s a great champion. When Andy is on his game, he’s fun to watch.

@Gypsy, thank you for singling me out….”especially
Okiegal”. Your are a real sweet caring person, can tell that by your comments. I know you are looking forward to the Aussie Open. I’m ready too. I finally went to sleep around 5 or so. I have so much on my mind hampering me from getting sleepy. I guess if insomnia continues through to the next slam, I’ll be wide awake since Australia is a full day ahead. I remember watching Rafa from 3:00 pm on a few times. That’s a brutal tourney with the players having to deal with the heat…..but I’m ready, just hope our guy is playing like we know he can. But I’m more nervous for him now that he’s older……dread it when he does retire. Oh, the sun is finally out, it’s been rainy, dark and dismal here in Oklahoma, but maybe the sunshine will perk me up!! Thanks again. Okie

Okiegal Says:

^^^^Oh, my I wrote a letter. Didn’t realize that until after I sent it! Well, I’ve read lots of long letters on this forum before. Sometimes it’s easy to get carried away…….

Margot Says:

Pity the Andy Murray Appreciation thread got highjacked by snipers . Oh well, that’s the dysfunctional blog I suppose…..
@RZ…;)

J-Kath Says:

Okiegal – I am silenced…huge respect.

courbon Says:

Margot-you do not have to be polite and write in “hidden” language-It’s always that idio* Giles, that has to post some cra* and then others response…it’s always the same…
Congarts again to Sir Murray!!!!

Okiegal-Your cowboy is still maybe using it, up there…scent of Old Spice in the heaven-what a thought! (-:

Margot Says:

Still a shame Courbon. Seems like DjokAl wars are well under way.
Attagirl OKgal.

Okiegal Says:

@Margot….Thanks, girl and a big congrats hug from across the pond…I know his loyal fans are busting their buttons….me too, but for other reasons! Lol

courbon Says:

@ Margot: True.Anyway,I need a break from blogging- so lees of my blabbing, is always good!

Okiegal Says:

@Courbon….Glad you brought up my Cowboy, who was the spice of my life. I got his shaving kit and took a whiff! Wow, what a pick me upper!! No tears, yet…I’m holding back! Your a real gem, your wife is a lucky gal, I’m sure of it!!

I feel like I’m the one who high jacked the Andy thread. I will work on that. Christmas will be better, my great grandson will be the star of the show and a little girl that we claim as our own. It’s gonna be fun!

On Andy……baby on the way…maybe a larger family to support will give him the will to fight harder. If my guy goes out early, Andy is the one for me!! Good luck to Andy and fans……just as long as he doesn’t beat “Afar”…….:)

Thank you Giles for your Andy twitter doggie pics/comments. It did give me a chuckle.

RZ Says:

@Okie – this time of year is always tough for those who have recently suffered losses. :-( Your friends will understand if you are weepy but of course you need to do what is best for yourself.

Thanks for the link…..feel very proud of Andy and huge respect to all those generous people.

Re Olympic Games/Davis Cup

Nole is to play DC against Kazakhstan. After losing final to Czech Republic (2013) Nole played only once for his country (March against Croatia) – hence, with Olympic Games approaching Nole must play in another DC tie.

Super Says:

Okiegal, I wish you a wonderful Christmas. May you and your family be healthy.

Andy’s win will probably translate into a great 2016 for him.

Okiegal Says:

@RZ…..Thanks, I usually do my weeping alone, try so hard to remain quiet and passive. People get real uncomfortable when you just out bawling. I will be fine in time.

Super, I don’t remember posts from you before! I appreciate so much your good Christmas wishes for me and my family…..I will extend the same to you and yours! Are you an Andy fan??

jalep Says:

Missed Davis Cup final but very happy for Andy and team GBR. Great accomplishment!!

Congrats to Andy and his fans!

Okiegal Says:

^^¥^Thanks, Giles, I enjoyed this article! Andy doesn’t like to see Jamie in his sights while playing. A little surprised he said that. You never know what actually can bother someone on the big arena. I have wondered how it would feel to be on the bottom of a pile up after a victory…..He was honest and said he was claustrophobic! I totally understand, because I am too! He’s such a likeable and honest guy. Good luck to him in the coming year.

Giles Says:

Okie. You’re welcome. Yes, some of the stuff surprised me as well.
He’s one of the good guys. 🤗

Super Says:

Okiegal, yes I like Andy.

I’m not a particular fan of any one player; I like to see competitive matches and different styles of play.

Thank you for your wishes!

jane Says:

we all know the “sniper” who commandeered andy’s thread to begin with; see first post above..

Wog Boy Says:

^^did somebody forgot which moniker to use and when, out of few he/she is posting under?:)

Congrats to Andy fans, at last you guys have something to celebrate, I mean like Andy coming out on top and not finishing second best. It’s always frustrating for fans when their fav keeps coming up short, but I guess it makes a victory that much sweeter and gives hope that he can keep up the good work and improve his overall game next season.

As for the resident hater: don’t feed the trolls. Just get over it, let it go, /ignore and you will end up more satisfied than engaging in sensless rants (just what he wants ultimately). By ignoring you will pay him the respect he deserves, trust me.
